Welcome to the real world. That was common knowledge many decades ago.

Yeah the hotel thing doesn’t make sense for a dang home game. Waste of money

Do any of you have a clue who owns the Hotel and who pays 60% of Lesters salary? Didn't think so.

Lawson isn't going anywhere. Not sure where all this is coming from. Attendance at Basketball/Hockey nationwide is down. Why get rid of cozy rinks like Lawson and Ferris? They aid recruiting.

I love Lawson, just need to sell beer there and i'd be in heaven. Have Bells open a taphouse there and maybe they'd kick in some money for upgrades.

Do they aid in recruiting? Can you tell me which other NCHC rinks you have been in and how they compare to Lawson?

BG and Lake State sell beer at games. I know Northern used to but not sure if they still do. I went to UNO about 10 years ago and they had big, full bars on site but it was an off campus facility.

Western does have the option to get a license for it, I'm sure.

This is the only correct answer. Fancy arena ain't mean **** if the team's finishing bottom of the NCHC every year. Ask Miami.

How do we recruit quality players? That's the correct question.

Season after season Lawson voted a top D1 hockey arena in terms of atmosphere.

Selling beer @ the game ain't mean **** when I can go pick up a 6pack @ the store.

Your solution, I assume, is to cut football? Tough. No one cares about D1 hockey outside of a couple schools. Even an average season in the MAC generates more $$$$ then a Championship season in hockey.

Personally, I love competing @ the highest level in hockey, football, basketball, & hell, all our other sports too.

Sorry to troll your board, but Lawson is my all time favorite "away" barn to visit and I make sure to do so every year we play you. The atmosphere and fan experience is fantastic. I don't care about the concourse size; selling brews would be a nice addition.

I went down to Miami State for the first time this year. Gorgeous facility, ridiculously awful fan experience.

Big BG fan here, except when you play WMU.

From Mlive story today..we got a good thing going at Lawson.

“ It was interesting that last year at the league press conference, both (North Dakota head coach) Brad Berry and his captain were asked separately, 'Which is the toughest rink to play in?' And they both said it's Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo.”

I have to believe there is some way they could renovate and modernize Lawson for less than the cost of a new rink. What about building a new concourse around the current seating? I don't know, I'm not that smart.

Looks like it's going to be standing room only both nights this weekend, so they'll be facing Lawson at full power! Wish I could be there.

RE: It would be a big mistake to replace Lawson Ice Arena
You need to keep lawson small... its PERFECT... the size is fabulous for the fans that go to games...

Having beer available at games would be nice... but the larger impact would be to create a Bell's porch... or Michigan Beer Porch... somewhere in the undeveloped corner to build out some sort of standing room only party porch...

You can't raise the roof... just not going to happen... BUT.... and this is a big BUT... you could do what UM did with their football stadium... you could dig down ... lower the playing surface... and push the existing seating structure out... still under same roof... but build a different entrance ... create more space that way. Without messing with the original footprint.

Just needs better concourse. Also feels dark (i.e. needs better lighting)

But one of the reasons we're in the NCHC is the atmosphere of Lawson, & that's partially helped by the building itself.

Number one team in the country, their "massive" rink is size of Wings Stadium. Been to Ferris a few times it's about 2/3's size of Lawson. They made final Frozen Four. Arizona State has been top 15 recruiting program playing in a barn.
