There, see what you did? Thanks for stirring the pot. 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot

Unless Thornton becomes more consistent, agree that having Barnes on the point initiating the offense and Scott off the ball ready for pick and pops would be preferable. Also, would like to see the two on two isolations with Knight/Van Vliet and Barnes/Scott moved five feet closer to the basket where our big men are in a better position to attack the basket on pick and rolls. Juan'ya Green and Rokas Gustys made a season out of that cat and mouse game against the CAA. Simply need to see more offense initiated with our big men down within 10-15 feet, not 20 feet away from the basket. A lot more options then to kick back out to open 3 point shooters. Barnes and Knight are perfect for that isolation game inside 15 feet, with Scott, Pierce, Van Vliet, Ayesa spotting up for open threes.

I’m pleasantly surprised it took this long to start the what-iffing, and very happy we’re debating whether last year’s team would have been 3-0, too.

Bring on the Pirates!

Yeah, Pierce had applied to our MBA program but withdrew his application shortly after Shaver was canned, Audige was a great player who would've helped but maybe he thought too highly of himself, Owens would've developed, and Milon may have moved closer to home anyway. Brown, I think, would've made us decidedly better. I want to give our current crew the respect they deserve...after all, they represent our Tribe.

It is what it is. We have what we have and what we have is 3-0. Huge messed up and I'll never forgive her but all I can do now is cheer for my school. The abundance of lies is what bothers me most...Shaver deserves better.

Go Tribe.

You may continue to carry water for the guy (Shaver) but he did not deserve better...the W&M fans and student athletes deserved better and it looks like we got it. So far so good Huge. Is she divisive...yes, did she make 2 good hires for 2 struggling programs....yes. Time to get over the Shaver firing, he had 16 chances and couldn't get it done. If his winning percentage (sub .500) was a batting average he'd be in the hall of fame. Bidness is bidness, sorry you and a few in the vocal minority feel that way. All I know is that I will be making the trip in to Williamsburg friday for the game, love to see you all there too!

Yeah, it is very much better than arguing about whether last year's team (or coach) would have been 0-3 too.

Just want to add to the chorus of people saying this is not just another win. Wofford is used to winning -- especially at home. They are their defending conference champs coming off a good NCAA tournament run where they upset Seton Hall and hung with Kentucky for a long time in the second game. Beating Wofford at Wofford is no joke.

No one is giving the team a crown, and there are plenty of tougher games ahead. But I think this win mattered more than beating AU (for example).

Thought you probably meant Loewe ....but, on the other hand, who among us (at least until yesterday) would ever have thought that the words "Loewe" and "spotting up for open threes" would ever be used in the same sentence?

Think we forget that Luke was recruited hard by Davidson before choosing us, and his life threatening accident at the start of his senior season set him back quite a bit. The ingredients are there.

I, also, think we are going to see more impact from Hamilton as he knocks off the rust from not playing the previous two seasons. The pedigree is there.

We have a stable of guards who have a chance at being collectively much better than anticipated.

Lies were told about Shaver. Sorry, integrity matters to me and Shaver doesn't deserve the blatant and public lies. It's also a lie that all or even more than one of our departed players would've been gone anyway. Brown decommitted bc Huge fired Tony on top of that.

I'm not going to rehash what Shaver did for Tribe basketball over 16 yrs. If you can't figure it out for yourself because you're too busy loving Huge, then it's not worth my time.

Some of you crowned Thorton as the greatest then slammed him two games later. You just want to drink the Koolaid at all costs with no concern as to whether or not the water that made it is potable.

Speaking of Pierce, I got a kick at how excited all of the former player/alums were about the victory on social media. Saw Pierce, Dixon, & Cole Harrison, hyped up right along side of us.

Welcome to the Board!

The AD needs to be left out of this thread about a road game won at Wofford by our team, a significant achievement. Her firing of Shaver was a disgrace; no need to go over old ground.

The 2019-2020 MBB team is part-Tony, and part-Dane. It is not part-AD. If the AD had her way, III is here, and this team is not 3-0 under III.

Tony and Dane get credit for what is happening now. In fact, I don't think Dane is getting enough credit. He has done an unbelievable job to this point. This is my school's team, and my team ... coaches, team staff, and players.

Been attending games at the Hall since 1976, and am not going to stop now because of an administrator's decision, egregious as it was.

IMO, I don't think that the team and staff that we thought we were going to have in 2019-2020, prior to Tony's firing, starts out at 3-0. The overall chemistry / team play appears to have improved under the principles of basic math: subtraction and addition.

I liked the Dane hire. I am thrilled to be 3-0 with three straight road wins. I look forward to attending some Saturday conference games, and following the team. I am not over the Shaver disgrace. I don't react well to people who tell me to get over it; I think it's a form of disloyalty to one of our own. I will not go to DC for the CAA tourney. There is no joy for me re: this Dance fixation and how it separated Tony from our community ... that was too high a price to pay. If this team makes the Dance, I win a bet with a frat brother. I am able to spit and chew gum at the same time (but not eat pizza at Anna's Brick Oven with Dane ... not yet).

Glad your coming to the game on Friday. I will not be there. I will listen to Jay on my drive down. But I will be in the Gold Lot on Saturday (plenty of space for you, but that's another story/issue that folks seem to be ignoring).

As you know NJ, we often disagree and I fall more in the move along crowd, but there isn't much I disagree with in your post. A vote of confidence in what Dane is doing isn't a vote against Shaver.

Your wrong, those guys were all me 1st guys , who cared little about team . This group has fun, plays together, an truly care about each other. give Dane the credit.

I think most agree with that. I’ve long viewed the decision to depart from a coach as separate from the success of the coach’s successor. While comparisons will inevitably appear, I think it’s a good practice to first determine whether someone is getting the job done and then find someone you think will. You may be right or wrong about the next guy, or people may disagree about what constitutes “getting it done” for the old coach, but it’s a disservice to both of the participants to constantly judge them on the successes or failures of the predecessor/successor.

RE: MBB Game 3 - - @ Wofford
I agree with almost all the points on this thread.

Coach Shaver and staff deserve a lot of credit for assembling most of the talent on this roster (Nate and Andy, just to name a few). But Coach Dane hasn't missed a beat and is already exceeding expectations early on. His offense fits this team perfectly, and defensively we have been more impressive than we ever were under Shaver.

As for comparing this years team to last years team, last years team had far more talent, but this years group plays as a unit, which is more important on the basketball court.

Last note on our departed players, and hopefully we can stop the nonsense once and for all. Pierce was GONE ALL ALONG, it has always been in the works. Everyone around or near the program last year knew it. Same with Audige. The other 3 (Brown, Owens, Milon) would probably still be here without the coaching change. However, all 3 are currently starting at their respective schools, and I wish them all the best. Obviously, having a few of those guys would help, but I think this years team chemistry is much better as a result and that is paying even greater dividends in my mind. Plus, we now get to see the development of Scott and Loewe.

This group is a joy to watch, and I look forward to supporting them all the way through the season, no matter how it ends. Looking forward to another victory on Friday!

Hope we Pack The Kap for the Hampton game and the students jam their sections. This team deserves it as they have
already exceeded early expectations.

Hampton is a good Mid-Major team and has a legitimate NBA guard prospect... we'll need to really support our guys.

Nice podcast interview with Coach Fischer on the heat check (not affiliated with Daniel Dixon) podcast. Following the Wofford win, provides nice incite.

This game showed us "two teams playing March caliber BB" and was a joy to watch. The quote from coach Dane at the luncheon the day after the game.
