Could Sanders be successful? I don’t know.

Well they paid Taggart $5M a year, plus he had a $4M buyout just to get him. So what is Deion kind of money?

While Saban is at Alabama...I dunno if that would be a job I'd take.
You'd be expected to win one every so often against Alabama (as Malzahn has been able to do).
Would that be something you'd want to jump into at your first high level P5 job?

Norvell on a level-playing field with Auburn money & resources? I don't think Saban would scare him off there. LSU & TAMU too, and they're in the West. Those are top 25 jobs where you can win a NC.

The other 3 in the West? No. However I won't underestimate the appeal of going "home" to Arkinsaw.

Would FSU hire another successful AAC Coach? Not so sure that would play well there. I would think they feel they can do a lot better.

RE: Norvell and Florida State
Some background information on Deion Sanders:

Sanders has been married twice — to Carolyn Chambers (1989–1998), with whom he has two children and Pilar Biggers-Sanders (1999–2013) with whom he has three children.[citation needed]

Sanders, along with J.M. Black, published his autobiography, Power, Money & Sex: How Success Almost Ruined My Life. World Publishing 1998. The book was inspired after he began counseling with Bishop T.D. Jakes. He notes his agent Eugene E. Parker as another person who influenced his life.

On September 22, 2011, he served Pilar Biggers-Sanders with divorce papers. He then backed away from the story and denied he and Pilar would be divorcing. By December 17, 2011, he had followed through with filing for divorce.[48] On March 12, 2013, he was awarded primary custody of his two sons and Pilar was awarded primary custody of their daughter.[49] However, one week later, a judge awarded custody of their daughter to him as well.[50] During the divorce battle, Pilar made several accusations of abuse against him on social media and in interviews, leading him to file a Defamation of Character lawsuit against her. In 2015, he seemed to have won when the court awarded him a $2.2 million judgment against his ex-wife in the case.[51] However, in August 2017, on appeal the case went against him.[52]

Sanders is presented as a devout Christian speaker with a fee range of $30,001-$50,000.[53] He has been in a relationship with Tracey Edmonds since 2012.[54][41]

Sanders has made an effort to coach at several different stops. His first being with the charter school Prime Prep Academy in 2012 which he helped found, but was later fired as the coach after a school staffer alleged Sanders assaulted the staffer. Sanders denied the claim and the charter school later shut down in 2015 due to financial mismanagement. In 2015, Sanders was named the CEO of FOCUS Academies and granted the head coaching position at the Triple A Academy where Sanders led them to face his alma mater North Fort Myers high school in Florida and featured a key matchup between several ranked recruits.[55] On August 17, 2017 it was announced by CBS Sports that Deion Sanders would be switching coaching positions at a new high school to become the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill high school in Cedar Hill, Texas. The move was significant for Sanders as both his sons play at the high school. Sanders will serve on the staff as offensive coordinator under former Dallas Cowboy Aveion Cason.[1]

Sanders' son Shilo has committed to The University of South Carolina, and will begin his collegiate football career in the fall with the 2019 South Carolina Gamecocks football team.

Do I think Norvell will leave eventually? Yes. But it will have to be for a top, top job. Not something like Kentucky that some guy was saying yesterday.

This

Also Jimbo left because FSU has failed to upgrade their facilities to keep up with the other top football schools. Our facilities are better. And I think Norvell is still building our program.

I think Norvell would kill it at FSU, but building a team takes time. Do you think he looks at Willie Taggart who was not even given 2 full seasons before getting sacked and thinks, "I don't need that"?

Yesterday's interview on Verno's show was heartening. CMN sounds absolutely genuine when he talks about his love for the city of Memphis, the university, and his job. He could certainly get a good payday at somewhere like Arkansas, but if he doesn't beat Alabama by year 2, people are calling for his head.

No way some former great athlete is going to return to his alma mater and be successful. Oh, wait. Lol. Just kidding. I see Deion to FSU as a train wreck, too.

DS has been coaching for some time now and should be well prepared for this opportunity, albeit I feel that the NFL is his overall destination.....I can see this happening for FSU as he will have successful components around him......Be interesting to see how this plays out as there are some underlying issues that could be cause for concern from FSU perspective with Sanders and qualifications shinanigans with high- profile athletes stemming from his venture in his former school in Dallas.....If they overlook that blip...it will become interesting.....surprisingly FSU may be too desperate to care at this juncture......IMO it's nothing to shake a stick at 05-nono

Being an assistant high school football coach does not prepare one to be a head coach at a major DI football power. Completely different scenario from Penny making the jump from HS basketball coach to Memphis head coach.

Football programs are a different kind of beast.

Agreed...

Basketball is more about the players...So if you can recruit you should be able to be successful unless you are completely incompetent.

Football the coach is more important than the players. You cannot put a bunch of 5 stars on the field without a solid leader or they will suck.

1 good basketball assistant can compensate for an inexperienced head coach much better than 1 or even several experienced football assistants. Porter’s staff compared to Pastner’s staff for the first 2-3 seasons is exhibit A.

Also seems to be much less staff turnover in basketball compared to football. Fuente’s staff being the outlier there.

RE: Norvell and Florida State
the FSU program just had something weird going on. During the last few years of Jimbo and during the entire Taggart era, they always recruited well. top 20 class at worst i believe, and they just couldnt put it together. Jimbo could only win 6 games that last year. Its easy to say he was over it and ready to go, but you dont just stop caring about winning. Not sure this is the job Mike takes or wants. He really seems to want a job where he makes a difference in the community and for the school. A job where theres not a lot of pressure to win now and immediately. He wanted that K State job. It fit that criteria. The Memphis job fits that criteria. The worry, for me, starts when someone else takes the FSU job and the job now open also fits that criteria

If a FSU comes calling, any coach in his position would have to listen. But LOL at Kentucky. Taking the UK job would legit be a step down.

RE: Norvell and Florida State
Taggert had some missteps and some things under his control did not improve. Some of issues about facilities are overblown. Only in comparison to Bama did FSU not meet Jimbo’s demands about upgrades. But the big fallout is that FSU got stuck with the worst O Line in the power 5 and the worst APR in the FBS. Taggart couldn’t process and turn over the roster. Any new coach may actually have to navigate the tail end of what Taggart was addressing. Hope it’s not Norvell

IMO, MN doesn't leave for FSU. Unfortunately for FSU, that program has become corrupt and over run with boosters.

MN could stay at Memphis and become the new Bobby Bowden. BB built the FSU program up into a powerhouse. They couldn't compete either for a national championship when he first got there. But he quickly got them into the national spotlight. There are some similarities here. So, Coach Norvell, stay in Memphis and become a legend.

His name was on the radio all day today but the FSU job right now is a complete dumpster fire. That's why some top tier coaches will not go near it.

That worked back then...

Today we have to take scraps when it comes to scheduling.
