Probably can expect everything he did in the game this year.

A win on the road - excellent, and it doesn’t matter who you are playing.
To hit 9 threes is very encouraging. The three-ball is such an important part of today’s game, which we have been lacking.
Benjamin may need to coach our team on shooting free throws. The freshman went 5-5 from the line in his very first game. Well done!
Eighteen turnovers, where eight players had at least two - ugly.
Rebounding was outstanding, but we definitely had a height advantage.
Again, a very nice come-from-behind win on the road.

RE: UAB Troy Bball game thread
I expected UAB to be a good bit better than they played. If we play with discipline we would have won going away. Defense still looks about the same. We still have 5+ minute droughts on offense and are too sloppy with the ball.
We added a significant player in Benjamin. Without him last night we lose. Ehsan only played 8 guys. Where is Jude?
We avoided losing to the team picked last in the Sun Belt. Last year they beat us and then did finish last. UAB has destroyed better Troy teams on that court.
It was a win and an important one but this team has to play much better. I was hoping for a much tighter looking group, execution-wise, but maybe I expect too much. Last night's effort won't be enough against the better teams in CUSA and will get us blown off the court against UK and Memphis.

That's my biggest takeaway from this game. That is also something that can be cleaned up. I'm extremely encouraged by the shooting percentages outside of FT's. I'm also encouraged that we avoided foul trouble. Hopefully we can build off of this, and as you said the most important thing about this game was we escaped with a W.

They had 2 19-3 runs in the game - one in each half. They came about the exact same way: Troy stopped shooting "out of the offense" 3s and started driving the ball(sometime kicking to the 3pt shooters, sometimes going to the hoop) and constantly switched defenses(if only in subtle ways) causing the TOs and we never adjusted, just "played through it". Troy did something different out of each timeout. Troy has a very good coach and this was Troy's 1st game. As Ehsan said, thay really had no film to prepare and had to go on how he coached previous teams.

watching the game now on espnplus ,,,,,we are not very good 3-3 for a long time
benjamin can shoot
we still cannot defend the 3 after they go inside and kick it outside ......
Pearson is still Pearson :(

Everyone needs to realize that this Troy team was picked last because the whole team is new. They returned ONE guy if im not mistaken from last years team so no one in the league knew anything about the team or how the new coach would have them playing. They are much better than we are giving them credit for. Their defense is stout. We had absolutely zero game film on this team. It was a tough first game in a tough environment. Win is a win and we will move on to the next one. Without all the bonehead turnovers that game is WAY different.

According to the box score, they also had 5010 attendance.
I still stand by my opinion that Gueye has a bad looking sidespin shooting style but so glad he knocked it down when it counted last night. Woot woot!

Gueye made a great shot. Which made up for letting his man take him baseline and slam home a go ahead bucket. Nobody rotated over to contest the shot, take a charge, nothing.
I wish Murry could have them for a few minutes every practice. I know he knows defensive fundamentals.

We are not going to shoot nearly 50% from three most nights, and we we aren't going to out-rebound the teams in our league 2-1. We played an inferior team, our coaching let the inferior team stay with us or lead most of the game, and we thankfully came out with the win. Glad we won, but disturbed that we saw the same things we have seen for the last three disappointing seasons.
We play a lot of teams much worse than troy on our schedule this year, so we will get wins, but against equal competition our coaching holds us back and has since Haase left.
agree 100 %
murray was good on defense and good with a big guy at center like butler

RE: UAB Troy Bball game thread
It’s one game so hard to read much in to anything. But IMO we look much improved. I think Benjamin gives us another creative playmaker when Bryant can’t be in the game for whatever reason. Seems to me our chemistry is further along at this time of the year than at least the last few years.
I also have to say Troy impressed me. We should have been able to pull away, I agree. But I think this Troy team will prove to be one of their best in years.

“I think this is one of the most athletic teams that we’ve had here,” Ehsan said. “Very physical, one of the quickest teams we’ve had, and I think we have a chance to be really good defensively, tough and physical. We’re going to try to get up and down the floor by some full-court pressure defense, more than we’ve had in the past.”
I don't know..that 2015-16 Men's Basketball squad was pretty talented..
Cokely, Lee, Mehinti, Brown, Lavender, Dirk Williams, Sullivan....etc..

RE: UAB Troy Bball game thread
The new Troy coach, Scott Cross, had some good teams while at UT Arlington. His best team went 27-9 in 2017. His teams won 20 plus games five times. He also had three losing seasons. He was fired at UT Arlington after the 2018 season, in which they went 21-13.
I think it’s a good hire for Troy. I also believe they are picked last (which KenPom does too) because they are so unknown right now. A new coach and new players are unknown quantities - to a degree. Cross has a history of doing well, and I suspect he will do well at Troy.

I remember reading some threads after he got hired at Troy and it seemed pretty unanimous from UTA fans that they wished he were still there.

Agree. Benjamin was the bright spot and the difference maker. The rest was pretty much SOS. Will he be enough to change the trajectory of the program? Not sure but working hard on some basic defensive techniques would go a long way. If Murry isn't busy, he is well qualified. Seen him teach helping and closing out in person and he knows his stuff. Not being facetious. He's the best defensive basketball coach on campus.

Okay, we survived at Troy against what I still think is a bad team, but we did get a win, on the road.
We didn't seem to show a lot of improvement from last season.
We may have lost our best player, at least for a while.
We have vented, and complained, as per message board requirements.
Now, who is going to be there on Monday night for our first regular season home game against Alabama A&M?
