Buzz who? The wily ol' Wofford coach is making everybody forget that chump quickly.

Woo Hoo! Maybe there's a reason to watch Basketball this year after all. I hope the weak OOC schedule doesn't come back to bite us in the ass(SOS ranked 350 out of 353 teams before tonight). We weren't expecting to be any good this year after losing 80% of our production from last year.

Thanks! Looking forward to VT playing UNC this year... and Hoo knows - maybe the Hokies can beat UVA, too!

FSU gets the golden raspberry for playing literally the worst team in all of basketball, Chicago St. How do they not get a little bit of trickle down talent out of that city is baffling. Any way FSU did bad things to them.

Pitt beat Kansas State. If not for that loss to Nichols State, I would think they had a chance at the tournament.

I reserve final opine of Cuse until after we play Okie St. on Wednesday but this team might gel into a pesky tournament team.

RE: Open Thread - 2019/20 MBB Season
Wow, Virginia Tech is quite a surprise. Picked 14th in the ACC pre-preseason poll and I also independently thought they would be horrible based on a coaching change and nearly an entire roster turnover.

The opening road win against Clemson was mildly surprising and they followed that up with dominant wins over four bad teams. To take down Michigan St yesterday though was highly impressive. They were up 10 fairly late in the game and the Spartans cut it down to 1 with a few minutes remaining. Compared to if they had just held that 10 point lead, I'm more impressed that after they nearly lost the lead, they had the fortitude as a young team to play through game pressure and pull out the win against a more talented veteran oppoent.

Coach Young was waiting in the wings for the right major program. He can COACH.

I might be getting ahead of myself, but VaTech may turn into a Cremins or Odom type program from the 90’s. He could be there 20 years.

Just think what he did at Wofford with about 1/3 of the talent.

Too small down low...Cuse can only beat good teams when they shoot well. Team is NIT bound or worse

Looks like it may be a long season, though Syracuse always seems to be on the bubble no matter how they look early. Neutral losses in Brooklyn by 14 to Oklahoma St and by 18 to Penn St, with both of those clubs projected to finish in the bottom half of their leagues.

Syracuse hasnt had a losing season in almost 50 years, the longest in D1. Looks like that will be coming to an end this season. I just lost interest in college bb.

FSU had a bad night on offense, but still managed to hang on to beat UT-K

Pitt, Pitt, Pitt..... you bring back your best self only to dress in a Steelers basketball uniform with a giant “P” on the chest.

It’s giving me PTSD remembering UNC’s interlocking “NC” rags.

Is this NCAA sanctions finally catching up with the Orange, or is it Alzheimer's Disease, or what?

Its not the sanctions at this point. It seems that the game has passed him
by. His assistant, Mike Hopkins, was his best recruiter and now has taken his talent to Washington and he's tearing it up out their and he has been taking SU's lunch on the recruiting trail by taking ESPN top 100 guys from JB's back yard. SU has never been down for this long. They have been on the bubble ever since the second year in the ACC. The first season in the ACC they set a an SU record by going 25-0 before losing something like 5 of their next seven, then losing the first round of the ACC tourney. SU has failed to win more than 22 games in the regular season from that point until this season, and it doesnt look like they can even get to 20 wins this season.

They havent been been just losing to mediocre P5 teams, they have been getting blown out by all of them. JB needs to retire. I have been saying this for several years now. And I am getting sick and tired of his act of losing a game and then biting off the head of reporters at the after game press conference because they ask a question that he doesnt like. I have always loved JB for everything he has done for SU, and still do. But his time has come and gone. Now its time to bring Mike Hopkins back home. We have seen this before at Louisville with their legendary coach. We have seen this at FSU with BB and VT with their legendary coach. Now its JB's turn.

These old coaches just don’t know how to bow out gracefully.

I’m glad the Heels have an ol’ coach and not an old one.

I heard an announcer say last week that JB is the oldest coach in college bb.

I saw this thread about Beoheim retiring on the Syracusefan board

If Devoe stays hot from 3 than I don't think Syracuse has much of a chance. And it feels weird to say that out loud when GT only has one true Center on the roster and is without 2 of its 3 best shooters and point guards (Usher, Alvarado).
