Kent State vs. Hiram
Not much hype surrounding this match up with the Terriers, but that is to be expected. I am looking forward to hearing the impressions those in attendance.

very curious to see all the new pieces. It looks like Sendy could have a very fun offense. Hopefully Williams and Peterson have learned how to shoot the ball over the summer

Tough to take much away from these games. I thought Pippen looked like he moved well but wasn't quite as explosive. That's to be expected with the knee issues. Also looks like he's added some muscle, dude looks cut. Simons looks like a big time shooter but I think we knew that. Surprised to see Castillo looks to be on the fringe of the rotation early. Also surprised to see neither freshman big is redshirting. Not sure if Hernandez is hurt or redshirting but he wasn't dressed. Cool to see Bennett get his first bucket.
Last impression... I think we're going to really like Santiago. He gets after it on D (albeit against non D1 players) and he looks like he's got the natural PG skills you hope for. One play that really stood out to me was when he passed up a wide open layup on a fast break to hand it to Beck for an easy dunk. Beck had just rimmed out two threes and, I could be misinterpreting, but I took that as him trying to get his teammate going. Love that in a PG.

I was just about to say the same thing about Gio Santiago. Really impressed with his polish and maturity.
I was looking forward to seeing Hernandez. I wonder what the deal is with him?

The fact that Pippen played is huge. If he is healthy enough to play, we could be really good. According to the box score, Simons scored 17 in 10 min? Whoa.

On the flip side, Whittington had just 2 points in 30 minutes according to the box I looked at. I was in and out of the game so I don't know if that's accurate.

RE: Kent State vs. Hiram
The whole team looked to be forcing their shots early. They settled down and really looked good.
Whittington- We really tried to get him going and it just wasnt happening. Forced shots and was frustrated. He will be fine
Williams- man, he can really run. I am nervous that he could hijack an offense but if he plays within himself we are good
Simons- WHAAAAT? Missed his first few then caught fire and the team found him. A lot of range and a quick trigger.
Pippen- Love to see him on the court. Hopefully we will see more athleticism as the season transpires
Beck- lost and forcing some shots. I was not impressed with his athleticism either. Hopefully that changes
Santiago- a lot of quickness, toughness and already showing leadership
Roberts- kid is just smooth.
Bennett- really cool to see him get some run. His whole family was in attendance filming the entire way
Bainbridge- Sendy said he was really impressed with his development over the summer. He looked nervous but was early in the rotation and he looked solid. I can see him forcing his way into some big minutes.
King- love that a walk on got a little run. I really like his motor. I think he can defend three spots.
Peterson- He might be the worst defender on the team. He bites on every shot fake. BUT, he also gets loose balls and does the gritty things.
Minus senior leadership I think Peterson and Williamson might see the minutes reduced.
Sendy is going to have a lot of pieces to play with this year. We can play big or small. Should be a fun year.

Good Summary here. I'm told Hernandez has huge upside just not many minutes there with williams, simmons, CJ and Peterson. Beck is freakish skills (2nd best athlete to Williams) his key will be can he bring consistent effort. Bainbridge is smart, works his butt off, good shooter and will only get better. Santiago may be starting at point by the new year. Flash fans are going to love this kid. Reminds me of Andrew Mitchell. rob hit a home run with the freshmen IMO
Team may drive us nuts. when they hit shots they can play with anyone. when they miss like first 15 minutes it could be ugly and may look selfish or forced shots. Lots and lots of pieces to play with.

I forgot Nalls from Chicago looked to have some quickness. I am trying to temper my enthusiasm BUT this Freshman class looks really good.

No doubt todays game is 3-point dependent so grousing about 3-point attempts is a lost argument ... however, this team seems happy to launch waaay too many quick-trigger 3-pointers and does not make a good enough percentage to warrant that gameplan.
Good to see Pippen back in action ... would love to see more of him on the block.
Agree, from the streeming, Beck looks lost, not much athleticism, and not much of a scorer .... The very good freshman class may overshadow the fact the transfer juniors (Beck/AC) don't look to be ready for prime time.

RE: Kent State vs. Hiram
Looking at the box score, 3 numbers jump out at me (I know this is a DIII opponent)….
Danny Pippen, 11 rebounds
Gio Santiago, 10 assists
Anthony Roberts, 18 points
OK - and Troy Simons, 17 points in 10 minutes
I don't expect these numbers to keep up all year, but if these 4 guys are solid this year, we'll be good.

A small thing ... but on the stream it looked like a decent crowd (for a D3 game) but can't find attendance figure anywhere on the stats or in the stories. Anybody know???

I agree with both of these assessments. IMO, Santiago will be the prevalent point guard as soon as games really count.

I would also say that Hiram is very young and had 21 players on the roster. They were actually better than I had expected.

It seemed like a decent crowd for sure. There were a lot of displaced students that probably made the sides look more full though. The endzone had the dumb tables up again and not a single person at them. The one endzone that was open was half taken up by the band. The tiny amount of space for students was packed though. Might get more to come if you didn't make them pack in super tight or sit up top.

The end zone was empty during the game but those Alumni know how to eat. I was watching a few I know and 5 or 6 trips to the buffet was the average. They were the pre game entertainment. It was more entertaining than watching the students look at their phones!!

I agree with this and hate the end zone buffet. I certainly qualify to enter that area but chose not to. People do go there to eat free. I go to be a part of the team that I love. And, I believe that the students like to have their own area to act like students. The current arrangement is expensive and is a distraction. Bad idea.

Agree on the end zone tables. Stupid idea. Bring back the bleachers for the students to have a decent area of their own.
