I wonder if it would ever make sense to allow bets for the margin with a certain amount of time left in anticipated blowouts. I don't just mean in Men's Basketball. I'm also including 42-0 halftime leads in Football when the final margin of 49 or 52 didn't go up much in the second half.
The overall Sagarin is close to the line with a difference of 24.10. I don't know if KenPom provides a home court advantage value, but if you use the home court advantage from the Sagarin, KenPom gives a margin of 29.93.

Remember the days when we went into a game like this with a realistic shot to shock the world?
Playing a team that is legit top 10 and should probably be in the top 5? Are you referencing a few years ago when we had a halftime lead on Duke in the tournament?

Not just those years, years with Brownell and Wainright. We knew we could keep those types of teams close and have a realistic chance of pulling off the upset. Wasn't trying to compare apples to apples, just good P5's that we actually had a shot against.

The term "shock the world" indicates a huge upset. But, we have had years were we looked at this as an opportunity to actually "shock the world". The fans, players and coaches all thought "these guys don't realize what they're getting into". And if we were overlooked or looked past, an upset was at least possible. Does anyone think there is even a 1% chance we "shock the world" tonight?
Also, not sure why you think they are top 10 or top 5 already. They beat Notre Dame, not Kansas. Let's see how the season plays out.

I went ahead and subscribed, but i'll be at Trask tonight. Also, it's going to be in the 30's around game time. Not sure a spot on the lawn is the place to be tonight....

Simple really why I think they are top 10 right now. Most notably, because they're actually ranked #9 and have a conference win under their belt in their opener. Yes, they beat ND not Kansas. Appreciate your stellar analysis there. Out of the current top 5, I would say Louisville has the least chance of staying there and Carolina usually stays in the top 10, so they have a legit shot at top 5 this year. They're a good team.
I'm not sure why you chose to take this shot at me for that simple statement, but... have a good day.

FWIW... ESPN BPI gives us a 15.2 % chance to "shock the world"

I'm just not sure if they are or they aren't. It took an out of this world game from Anthony to beat Notre Dame. Preseason rankings don't mean a whole lot when they have an ACC schedule in front of them. They could stay on top, but who knows?

Yeah. That's fair. I'm actually wondering why the ACC decided to start the season with several teams playing conference opponents. Interesting approach.

They got that fancy new ACC network that needs to ensure distribution

I'm stuck with the PAC12 network out here, so hopefully they have some decent teams to watch as well. We'll see. I'll keep an eye on Stanford games.

I'm currently in SE Arizona working for the Dept of Defense. Still in the CG, but playing a bit of a different role right now.
