1 school was favored to win, 4 were underdogs. CUSA went chalk yesterday.

Nebraska, which is supposed to be the big name draw in our Cayman Island's tournament, lost at home by 19 to UC Riverside.

We need to stop playing in these weak tournaments. Either join a strong field, or play money games on the road.

Charlotte lost to JMU last night. I guess Charlotte is still bad, despite their fans hyping up the team and recruiting class every single year.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the first game of the year though. I think they have some solid new (young pieces). Its gonna take time but they have done some good things.

It seems CUSA teams suck during the OOC and start playing well when the conference play starts.

No, I think what it comes down to is the entire conference, including ODU, has been pretty weak over the years. We put teams like UTSA on a pedestal because they win games in conference and beat us on occasion, but in reality, they are just an overall weak team that live and die by 2 players that play little defense but that can win games if they are hot enough to trade 3's for 2s and end up with a higher score. Whether you use RPI, Kenpom, NET, or whatever, they probably give a decent representation of where everyone stands at the end of the year.

No one put a couple posters on the here and the UTSA fans put UTSA on a pedestal.

Point is CUSA sucks out of conference and sucks in conference. Only difference is not that the teams got good all of the sudden when playing each other... difference is someone has to win.

The conference "sucks" compared to P5 conferences. When it comes to G5 conferences, its one of the top handful or so.

Makes no sense P5/G5 is a football paradigm. I guess since there is only 5 G5 conferences, by definition, we are in the top handful. So aside from consistently battling the Sunbelt for #4 or #5 in basketball among the G5 football conferences behind the American, MAC, and MWC, we are also usually below the non P5/G5 conferences of the Big East, A10, WCC, CAA, MVC, Southern, and Ivy. One year even finished #23 out of #31. We have never had multiple bids to the tournament in the modern era and seeding for the champion has been 14, 15, 12, 13, 14, respectively. When we have 3 out of 14 teams in the top 100, we consider that a good year. Not sure how you can describe that as anything but "suck".

CUSA is not "usually" behind the CAA, Southern, MAC and Ivy. Thats a rare occurrence. The Big East, MVC and A10... probably so. I don't expect CUSA to be better than the Big East, but would love to see it compete with the A10 and MVC like it should.

Not really going to go through all the numbers right now, but I don't think the Sunbelt is anywere close to CUSA in basketball. Southern and especially not Ivy are certainly not at our level.

American, MVC, and A10 are better. We are on par with WCC, CAA, WAC, MAC.

Could this just mean that they suck and then we forget that they suck when they start playing each other instead of teams from other conferences?

The top SoCon teams would usually win CUSA. The last 2 years, the top two SoCon teams probably would have won CUSA.

Last year, yes, a couple SC teams would likely have won CUSA.

The year before last (KenPom):

MTSU- 45
WKY- 47
ODU- 64

UNCG- 82

Year Before:

MTSU-43
ETSU- 67
