OK. But so much for signing another series.

I don't think there's an expectation that LSU or really most P5 programs of consequence would give VCU a home game unless they sniped their coach and it's part of the deal. The real favor comes from Tony Bennett and UVa., which has played two home-and-homes with VCU and seem amenable to more. Which also makes their stiff-arming ODU, even though they've played at JMU, Mason and GW, all the more perplexing.

It wouldn't surprise me if we agree to a 2-for-1 series with UVA soon.

Wood said he wouldn't do a 2 for 1 with anyone.
UVA probably has donors that don't like JJ from his time there, so they black listed ODU. That is my personal conspiracy theory.

I think that Wood could change his mind. We could be heading in a new scheduling direction if we don't get better in-season tournament offers.

Correct. It began a couple of years ago with getting Syracuse on the schedule last season (and Illinois this year). If the teams in upcoming exempt tournaments don't pan out/aren't favorable, there is definitely pressure to start scheduling 1-off road games/2&1game/whatever it takes to get quality opponents on the schedule. As long as we are in CUSA, this has to happen.

That is not a conspiracy theory. It is cold hard fact. My understanding was a 1 and 1 was all but signed until a big money UVA donor said "No".

I'm not sure I understand what forces LSU to honor something that's in a VCU coaches contract. How exactly do they enforce that if LSU doesn't want to play?

Yup. All teams have to pay to travel to these tournaments. Even the Maui tournament with that high-ranked field.
Look at our last two tournaments. We played Temple in 2017-18 in the first round and lost, which got us Indiana St and Dayton (both teams finished year under .500). Last year we lost to Oregon St. then got Kennesaw St and Northern Iowa (again, both teams under .500). What did we get for the money spent other than a nice vacation for the team?
If we want to go to a fun place to reward the team, we could get paid to play at Miami, UCF, USF, Florida, FSU, San Diego St, UCLA, USC, Arizona St., etc. and take an extra day or two to have fun. Maybe even schedule two games in the same general area, and come out ahead in dollars rather than spend money every year on these tournaments.
We can still do a tournament every 3 years or so. Something like Charleston would be nice. But every year doesn't make sense unless the field is strong.

Because VCU still has to allow LSU the right to sign him. If the school doesn't want to adhere to it, VCU doesn't allow them to contract the employee. There was apparently a buyout of $250,000 to not play in Richmond but they did not execute it.

Plus I mean is not like Texas or LSU are world beaters in basketball. Better than what we've brought in lately but still they're beatable. I question that LSU should've been ranked anyway.

Preseason ranks, especially the back half of the top 25, are pretty much a crapshoot as everyone is trying to figure out how good everyone is. VCU will be ranked next week again assuming they don't mess anything up this weekend

I've always thought of them off being at least decent. Looking at their year last year and it seems less than stellar. Guess I over reacted. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Okay, so UCONN just beat #15 Florida so I'm actually gonna say I under reacted. St. Joes beating them is awesome.

That's great for us as well at the end of the season.

My crew will be rolling 11 deep for bill&mary. The Kap is going to be filled with ODU chants from section 25! A couple seats are still open in that section if anyone wants to join us.
