We are talking conferences as a whole, not the top team. Going back 5 years, starting with '14-'15... the only conference mention that we beat in both metrics is the WAC and I didn't bring them into it. As I said, we are about equal with the Sunbelt for the worst G5 basketball conference and we are usually below the non P5/G5 conferences of the Big East, A10, WCC, CAA, MVC, Southern, and Ivy.

I have no idea how to read that. What metric are they using?

I only compared to the last two years but it looks like RPI.

Correct, did the best I could short of attaching an Excel file.

If you want to support an argument, I wouldn't use that metric.

Also, when deciding which conference is better, do you focus on the average? The top end? Some other measure? CUSA isn't going to grade well using average because it has so many teams and bottom 5 are jokes. If you look at the top end, it compares very favorably to other conferences. It really just depends on how you view it and thats why I said roughly similar.

Though saying the SunBelt or Ivy is better is a poor argument.

Northeastern got a vote in the AP top 25, not a good look losing even on the road to a UMass that's expected to suck yet again. Charlotte win is a pleasant surprise.

UTEP beat NMSU too.

Looking at their schedule, toughest games left are a game vs UNM, and away games at NMSU, Houston, and the Hawaii diamond head classic (first game is UTEP vs Hawaii and also features Washington, Ball St, Boise St, Georgia Tech, Houston, and Portland). If a few things fall their way, they could very well be undefeated by the time conference play begins.

UTEP has revamped the roster. A lot of transfers have entered the program. Expect them to make some noise this year.

I don't understand why you all put UTSA on a pedestal. Nothing has changed. They play no defense and live and die by Jackson and Wallace shooting the 3 and outscoring opponents. When they are hot, they can beat anyone making them dangerous. When they are cold, they can lose to anyone. They started the season very cold. They will have to be hot for 4 straight games to win the CUSA tournament. Unlikely. They are basically the CUSA's version of W&M. We'll lose games to them, but they aren't a huge postseason threat.

Shooting 3s is the only comparison to W&M. Starts and ends there. But they typically cannot keep up their shooting for a whole tournament - if that is what you were going for.

However, W&M plays defense. UTSA doesn't. W&M is not a 'shoot the 3 first and foremost', they ran sets for backdoor screens, post up plays, and always look for someone with an open 3. A lot more offensive complexity that UTSA. UTSA runs plays designed to get the ball to two people first, and if not successful tries something else.

UTSA is highly rated in the conference because their top scorers return in a year where several other top teams lost talent (including us). WKU is still the favorite. Nobody is putting UTSA on a pedestal? The coaches poll had them 2nd, did the coaches put them on a pedestal too? I don't get that comment.
