Quote:EMU and Toledo were both games we absolutely could and should have won.
I agree with EMU, although wasn't surprising we lost, given our night & day difference on the road, and EMU's *potential* and how they can surprisingly get some wins against CMU & WMU, with their feeling of being the step-child of Michigan MAC teams. Especially after our narrow victories over EMU prior and their good coach. But yes, given how EMU certainly can be, we "should have" won in some sense. But it'd require us to step up and bring a very good game when they do. With our given D + road performances, and the situation EMU was in -- I can't classify it as a classic "Should Have Won That Game! WTH?!" More like a game we "Could Have Won and Didn't".
Toledo, I wouldn't put it in that dept either. Like other teams, we're much better at home than on the road, and the Glass Bowl is certainly no exception. It's only in the sense of "We Shouldn't Have Had a 1st Half like that." But then again, against Ohio, our D shouldn't have performed that way 2nd half. Or the end of the 3rd->4th Q against CMU, both games we won.
Quote:I think Syracuse might fall into the same category.
We had more yards than Syracuse (AGAIN), and like 550 yards of offense! Our O got stopped when they needed it and the rubber met the road, and our D, well, was our D as it has been on the road. But yes, a game where our Potential certainly could have won, just like with Toledo.
Quote:It turns out this years schedule was very manageable.
Yep. In retrospect, it's NOT the super-tough schedule. The MAC's having a down year, and both MSU & Syracuse are having lower-end years. I'll say we SHOULDN'T have gotten so whipped by MSU. MSU has much more potential than what they fully execute (see Illinois game 1st half vs 2nd as a reflection of that). I won't say that's a game we "Could have won but didn't", but certainly a game we "Should have made competitive."
