Alex got in for the last offensive series. Two plays, but it gets him his letter. Pulled from the left guard position on the first play, and straight-up block on the second. They pulled him up from scout team prior to the Buffalo game. I'm hoping he'll get more time in the next few games, but it's tough when you're behind Sow and Donnelson.
Can he play RG next year?

He'll play where ever they ask him to. Last year they were drilling him at center, and this year it's been at left guard. Interestingly, for the Buffalo game he was a backup on the d-line at d-tackle in the event of an "emergency need."

really good win and we did what we had to do. Akron is really, really, really bad in all areas. That program will struggle for a while. Would have liked to have seen more 4th qtr reps for younger guys. Giving game experience to Howie, McAdams, Merrit, Boone, Preston, Jairus and others 100% will help us into next yr. (not sure if all those guys dressed). Either way, cant complain with a comfortable win which has been rare. Great job by team and coaching staff to not overlook them and set us up for NIU which we need to win. 6-6 may not cut it guys, I really think it's got to be 7-5.

Agreed. We have to win out if we want to go bowling. Kent and NIU have both been bad, but not nearly as bad as Akron. Either team can beat us comfortably, if we don’t come prepared. Let’s hope this win gives us some confidence to take care of business and get to 7-5.

Defense still gave up 14 to THAT team! Creighton & Neathery have to figure out some way.....any way.....to get better on defense in order to win these last 2.

I'm more concerned about Akron's first drive (which was almost successful) than the 'garbage time' points.

Wasn't it 35 - 0 when Akron scored?

I bag on the defense a lot, but they didn’t give up points until the end of the 3rd when we were up by 35. It happens. We looked shaky as hell on the first drive, where Akron probably should’ve scored, but they clamped down after that. We still aren’t the greatest tacklers, but our DB’d played better than they have all season.

You’re right that they need to do whatever they can in these last two. NIU is pretty anemic offensively, but they’ve shown they can put points up against inferior defenses. Worried about this one.

On defense, giving up 342 total yards (when Akron was averaging around 255) was of more concern to me than the points. That last garbage time touchdown came against our guys who are deep on the depth chart.

However, we only allowed 54 rushing yards. They weren't getting anything on the ground. And they had Kato Nelson back, who isn't good but better than the QBs Akron had been playing with previously. I agree with Sam and just wish we tackled better to limit the YAC and get the QB/RB on the ground when we hit them behind the line of scrimmage.

I've said for weeks, we've to go 7-5 to go bowling! Both N Illinois and Kent St have losing records, but neither game will be easy for us! They both can run the football, and we couldn't stop anyone from doing that except Akron......….

Tough, I am pretty sure I will someday disagree with you on something. Today is NOT that day.

Akron is in a total rebuild effort and we stopped their first drive to a touchdown by inches, a watershed event to the game. Our defense has been our strength the past three years, it is now our weakness. I realize that we lost an absolute ton of talent. but the guys we have now just don't tackle very well. Magill and his shoulder only hits on the ball carrier often produce a lot of yards after catch.

I posted this on the Toledo board but I truly believe Mike Glass is the best QB in the MAC. He has little running game, yet he put points on the score board, game after game. Our porous defense this year squandered a huge opportunity this year, this guy has an arm similar to Roback's and no aversion to running it either.
