When you're talking about the mid-major level, you're far more likely to end up with a bunch of Trey Kalina's than anything close to a Rendleman or Cacok. We were lucky to be able to land Dodd. I'd rather use scholarships on quality or decent guards than recruit goofy 6-10 guys with bad hands.

4-guard lineups are really the only way to win at the mid-major level. But you have to have a strategy in place to make up for the lack of size. In Year 3 we need to figure that out, and fast. Bill Coen does it every single year at Northeastern and always has that team in contention.
Why can't we recruit someone that looks like the early version of Cacok and Rendleman? This guy was the AC and Recruiter at UNC for 14 years!! More than being a solid HC at this early juncture he was hired for that reason, wasn't he? We have 1 big man that Valparaiso thought they could part with and a raw rookie backing him up that has potential. If we had a BIG like NE, W&M, CofC or DREXEL it would look very different on the court.

FIU 107
Cleveland State 61

FIU lost to NCSU 86-77 and lost to Mississippi State 77-69

Pretty close games against pretty good competition.
You define "good" loosely. The only decent team State has played they lost too. They have an RPI of 171! I did see they have a top 5 recruiting class next year i'll be interested to see how that plays out.

Dodd could be a similar player to Cacok. He's already playing more than Cacok did as a freshman. As for Rendleman, I don't think there are many athletes in general that fit that mold he had.

I can see the resemblance. IMO, Doss had much more muscle at this point in his career too. He just needs to learn how to use it
