With Towson picked so high in the CAA, the game with GW should be interesting.

Yeah with GW projected to finish 12th out of 14 and playing at home, Towson needs to win this game

RE: 2019 M Basketball CAA Non Conference
Charleston is favored by 19 hosting USC Upstate, who was horrible last season. They had 3 Division I wins and were 344th in the NET and 351st in the RPI out of 353 teams. In their school name, "USC" means University of South Carolina. Charleston went down 4, up 7, down 2, and is tied at 31. Riller has 15 points, Jaylen Richard has 7, Zep Jasper has 5, Brevin Galloway has 2, and Jaylen McManus has 2. Galloway averaged 7.9 last season and is their second highest returning scorer.

Edit: After USC Upstate went up 2, Riller made a 3 to give him 18 points with 0:47 left in the half, and freshman Trevon Reddish made a layup at the buzzer for a 36-33 halftime lead. Charleston has 3 fewer rebounds, 1 more turnover, and 7 fewer field goal attempts, albeit free throw attempts makes up for some of that. Charleston made 9 of 10 free throws, and USC Upstate made 2 of 2. Sam Miller, who averaged exactly 0.5 assists last season, has 2 assists, and he's the only Charleston player with an assist.

Here are other scores:

Towson leads George Washington 32-23 at halftime. Towson trailed until they went on a 13-2 run from the last media timeout to halftime. Allen Betrand, who averaged 4.6 points last season, has 13, which surpassed his previous career-high of 11.

William & Mary leads High Point 30-21 at halftime. Thornton Scott with 11 and Knight with 10 are the only double-digit scorers on either team.

Delaware leads non-Division I Bridgewater 55-26 at halftime. Ryan Allen scored 16.

Boston University leads Northeastern 33-32 at halftime. Jordan Roland has a whopping 18, and Maxime Boursiquot has 8 in his first game since his injury redshirt season. Bolden Brace has 1 missed field and hasn't scored. Northeastern has made only 1 three. They averaged 9.6 threes last season.

Elon leads non-Division I Mars Hill leads Elon 22-20 with 8:54 left in the first half. Freshman Hunter McIntosh has 8 points.

Drexel is about to start at Temple at 8:00 P.M.

RE: 2019 M Basketball CAA Non Conference
Riller scored 8 in the second half to finish with 26, and Charleston played great defense to win 74-55. Sam Miller had 8 points and 14 rebounds.

Towson won 72-58, and that's without their second and third leading scorers from last season. Neither Tobias Howard now Nakye Sanders played, and I don't know why. Nicholas Timberlake, who missed most of last season due to injury but was supposed to be healthy, didn't play either. Allen Betrand scored 18, transfer Juwan Gray scored 17, and Fobbs scored 12 with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

William & Mary won 70-56. Thornton Scott led all scorers with 22. Knight had 16 points and led all players with 13 rebounds. Transfer Andy Van Vliet had 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Delaware won 97-51. Justyn Mutts had 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead all players in both. He played for High Point as a freshman, so if he hadn't transferred he could have faced William & Mary tonight. Ryan Allen scored 21, which were mostly from 6 threes. They had five double-digit scorers, and Kevin Anderson had 9 points and a career-high 9 assists.

Northeastern won 72-65 to tie Boston University at 74 in the all-time series. Northeastern is 4-0 in Boston University's home openers at Case Gym. Jordan Roland scored a majority of their points with 39, and that's with making only 2 threes. His 13 two-pointers more than doubled his previous career-high of 6. Bolden Brace scored only 6, which came from 2 threes, including the winning shot with 35 seconds left. He led all players with 9 rebounds, and led Northeastern and tied three Boston University players for most assists with 3. Maxime Boursiquot scored 10 and had 3 of Northeastern's 10 steals, but the announcers wondered why he didn't play late in the game.

Elon trailed by 5 early, led by 12 at halftime, and won 90-84. Stanford transfer Marcus Sheffield II had 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Federico Poser had 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. He averaged exactly 1 assist per game last season. On Friday they host Milligan in their second consecutive non-Division I game.

Drexel trailed by 11 with under 7 minutes left in the first half before going up 1 and being tied at 31 at halftime. Temple leads 61-51 with 3:22 left.

Drexel down 6 with 1:05 to go. Drexel looks solid for their first game against a big name. If they can continue to improve they will be a force

RE: 2019 M Basketball CAA Non Conference
Drexel lost 70-62. Given their contributions, returning starters Camren Wynter and James Butler played a lot, but neither of them started. Wynter had 15 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Butler didn't shoot well in the process of scoring 7, but he had 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Freshman T.J. Bickerstaff led them with 16 points and had 7 rebounds. Kurk Lee started but did not score. Drexel had 7 more rebounds, but they couldn't overcome their horrible field goal percentages for two-pointers and three-pointers.

The CAA went 7-1 including 4-1 vs. Division I. Hofstra opens tomorrow hosting San Jose State, and James Madison opens tomorrow hosting Charlotte.

RE: 2019 M Basketball CAA Non Conference
Hofstra shot threes horribly. The guards shot twos well, but forward Isaac Kante made only 3 of 9 twos. Hofstra attempted only 7 free throws. SJSU committed 4 fouls in the first 5 minutes of the second half and 2 fouls in the last 15 minutes. Eli Pemberton played all 40 minutes as Coach Mihalich continued not to use his bench. Four bench players played 4 to 7 minutes and attempted 1 field goal combined.

JMU won 79-74 with a horrible free throw percentage of 12-28 = .429. Matt Lewis had 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists, but he didn't shoot well. Deshon Parker had 17 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and made 8 of 11 field goals. Zach Jacobs played 35 minutes because Dwight Wilson is injured. JMU fans said he got an MRI on his ankle, and I don't know how bad his injury is.

A solid opening weekend for the CAA.
Delaware got the sweep in Florida versus UTSA, Oakland, and S Illinois.
Drexel grinded out a home OT win
William and Mary got a road win at American
Hofstra rebounded from their bad loss and pounded Monmouth at home
Charleston and Northeastern also beat solid mid major programs Georgia State and Harvard

JMU plays at UVA tonight at 6PM on ESPNU so hopefully they can have a good showing

RE: 2019 M Basketball CAA Non Conference
In the VERY early going the CAA is ranked # 5 in the Conference RPI rankings. The league has a 12-3 non-conference record against D-I opponents.

NU beating Boston U. and Harvard in non-conference rivalry matchups had to feel good for the Huskies. They play those teams pretty much every season and I can't remember the last time they beat BOTH of those squads.

W&M winning @ High Point was another highlight, as it's generally tough to beat them on the road.

And of course Delaware going 3-0 at the "Sunshine Slam", beating Oakland, So. Illinois and UTSA, was a very nice feather in the cap.

The only losses for the league thus far were against UNC, Temple and San Jose State out of the Mountain West.

Not too shabby.

Definitely been a good showing. JMU this evening is likely the first huge loss. SJSU loss is a bad loss but was still close. The CAA is down this year, but at least it looks like our floor is being raised, which is a good thing.

Delaware had 2 guys with 30+ points in the UTSA win and neither of them are their number 1 option. The Blue Hens are going to make some noise this year. I noticed Northeastern only goes 7 deep. While they probably have the best starting 5, depth looks to be an issue for them.

O/T, but how about Winthrop beating St Marys on the road last night?

Northeastern has never had a ton of depth if my memory serves correctly. Which is remarkable, because they play fast on offense and still play tight defense. Coen's conditioning program must be insane.
