4-guard lineups are really the only way to win at the mid-major level. But you have to have a strategy in place to make up for the lack of size. In Year 3 we need to figure that out, and fast. Bill Coen does it every single year at Northeastern and always has that team in contention.
Why can't we recruit someone that looks like the early version of Cacok and Rendleman? This guy was the AC and Recruiter at UNC for 14 years!! More than being a solid HC at this early juncture he was hired for that reason, wasn't he? We have 1 big man that Valparaiso thought they could part with and a raw rookie backing him up that has potential. If we had a BIG like NE, W&M, CofC or DREXEL it would look very different on the court.

Pretty close games against pretty good competition.
You define "good" loosely. The only decent team State has played they lost too. They have an RPI of 171! I did see they have a top 5 recruiting class next year i'll be interested to see how that plays out.

Dodd could be a similar player to Cacok. He's already playing more than Cacok did as a freshman. As for Rendleman, I don't think there are many athletes in general that fit that mold he had.

I can see the resemblance. IMO, Doss had much more muscle at this point in his career too. He just needs to learn how to use it

I’m about to watch the Elon vs UNC matchup. I was randomly sliding through programs and saw it is being aired here. Will be good to see how they stack up against them and what schemes they employ.

Elon lost to UNC last year 116-67 at Elon
They are leading UNC 22-16 with 11:00 left in the 1st half.
Same players, new coach. Playing zone against UNC.

They’ve been playing a 2-3. UNC has come back to tie them up at 25.
Elon is shooting threes nearly every possession. They were hot early but the UNC defense has clamped down. Now their threes aren’t as comfortable and are getting jacked early in the shot clock. Their lack of being able to drive on UNC will hurt them in this game. They’re already shooting better than their average so I doubt that continues the whole game.

I'm more impressed by the low point total they've given up to UNC

Yeah, they’re playing a very tight in the paint 2-3 zone. UNC, outside of a couple guys aren’t much of a 3 pt threat. Pierce can light it up but they’ve mostly been looking to score in the paint as usual. Elon has definitely played good defense and frustrated Cole Anthony at the top of that zone by collapsing on him at the beginning of his drives.
Elon’s shooting has definitely trailed off and their shots still look rushed and forced. They’re going to have to maintain that tough interior defense to keep pace with UNC the rest of the way. Trim the turnovers and they have a decent shot at an upset here. Only problem is that I just don’t see as many of those deep shots falling for them, and they aren’t really showing an ability to score on the inside of UNC’s half court defense. They’re shooting from deep to avoid the length of UNC’s defenders.

Delaware is now 6-0 (5-0 against D-I). Their D-I opponents thus far are a combined 9-16, but all of their D-I wins have come on neutral or road floors. Impressive stuff.
The Blue Hens next face Stony Brook (3-2) on Nov 27.

Hofstra is at Pauley on the west coast too.
Towson gets Xavier.
3 games against the big boys. W&M to me has the best chance at an upset of the 3, Hofstra the least

RE: 2019 M Basketball CAA Non Conference
Taking a look at our non-conference opponents and how they've been doing lately:
* UNC (4-0), as mentioned earlier, defeated Elon last night, 75-61. Next up is the Battle 4 Atlantis, where the Tarheels will face Alabama in their first game at Nassau, Bahamas on Nov 27.
* Stanford (5-0), also as mentioned earlier, face W&M tonight. They take on Oklahoma next Monday prior to hosting us.
* Vanderbilt (3-1) lost their only game to date in OT @ Richmond on Nov 14, then bounced back to beat Austin Peay last night, 90-72 to start a 6-game homestand. Tulsa, Buffalo and Liberty visit Nashville over the next 4 weeks.
* Davidson (2-2) beat up on Nevada on Tuesday, 91-71. They face Wake Forest tomorrow (Friday) in Charlotte then Marquette on Thanksgiving Day in Orlando.
* Boise State (2-2) picked up their first D-I win of the season last night in an OT win over BYU, 72-68. They hit the road to face Pacific on Saturday prior to playing us.
* Charlotte (2-1) takes on Appalachian State tonight at 7, in Boone.
* Campbell (3-1) beat The Citadel on Saturday, 87-73. They host Jacksonville on Monday before hitting the road for 3 games at the FGCU Classic.
* Mercer (3-2) fell to Georgia Southern on Tuesday, 98-88. They have 3 games coming up in the Boca Raton Beach Classic, which features 2 campus games (@ UIC, @ Saint Bonaventure) and 1 game in Boca Raton, FL (vs. Canisius).

Coastal Carolina who lost to Campbell just beat Utah by 22. Utah has wins over both Nevada and Minnesota.

Hofstra beat UCLA on the road last night, 88-78. UCLA was 4-0 entering the game. Definitely the biggest win of the Joe Mihalich era, and arguably the biggest win in Hofstra basketball history.

Ummm, not so fast. Don't let the name on the uniform fool you. UCLA, a shell of what they use to be, scheduled their first eight games at home. With what looks to be teams they were considering to be weak, apparently in order to pad their record. But Hofstra walked in and exposed what they really are. Still just a thin shell of what they use to be.

Of course, but its still the biggest win of the Mihalich era. If there's a bigger win in Hofstra basketball history I'm not aware of it.
