Ouch.
Nebraska has a completely new roster apart from one player. It shouldn't be that surprising when you consider that no one on that team's played a meaningful game of basketball with anyone else on it.

Except UC Riverside was missing three players, including a 3* forward who's sitting out until mid-December, had to fly to Lincoln and were double digit underdogs.

Unless you were assuming a team that was 10-23 a year ago was favored, then this was laughable

It’s not often you see Syracuse stuffed to under 40 points. Happened once this decade before this game, iirc. You have to go back to ‘62 and ‘50 for 36 points (it was enough for a win in ‘62). Lowest since 1945. Yikes.

And he's faced some downright LOUSY GT teams in that span.

Well, you can always blame the schedule for only scoring 34 points.

Packer and Durham gave a big ole eye roll and 5 minute repudiation of that one.

Why rip the ACC? It’s his AD boss and president who green-lighted it. Like you saw pushback from Michigan and Ohio State that they weren’t up for hosting non-Saturday football games, Syracuse leadership should have hard-passed this as best they could.

Boeheim just sounds like a dolt with this.

I didn't read what JB said, but if he is saying its too early for conference games, he's right of course. Teams should have a good month of OOC play under their belt before the conference schedule starts. Shouldn't start before late December, IMO.

That said, I watched the UVA game and being held to 34 points in the Carrier Dome is plain embarrassing. Yes, UVA is known for strangling teams this way but still, that was amateur hour by Boeheim and Syracuse last night. UVA entered the game without any prep either, and were on the road.

JB is just mad he couldn't have his full serving of cupcakes before Christmas.

As it is, the rest of the schedule before Conference play resumes:

Colgate
Cornell
Seattle
Bucknell
N Florida
Niagra
Oakland.

Actually has two good games at the dome: Okla State and Iowa.

But as usually, on one road OOC (@Georgetown)

I’d be all for moving college basketball to the fall (Sept-Jan) and college football to the spring. This eliminates the overlap in football with the NFL.

NFL can play on both Saturdays and Sundays during their season. college can do the same in theirs.

It was 70-20 at half and Utah still put up 73 in the 2nd half. Absolutely disgraceful.

It only got worse when the walkons came in for the second half. None of those guys can dunk so they just dropped 3s for 20 minutes. When you're guarding the farm boy from bumfuxk Idaho, you gotta go over the screen.

Delta Devils used to have a proud program. Just checked basketball reference and they haven’t hit 10 wins since 2012.

I watched the highlight reel on YouTube ... MVSU looked disinterested from the jump. They're worse than Utah but they're not THAT worse than Utah. That's what it looks like when one team doesn't even really try.

1. Mississippi Valley State lost by 94 while scoring more than Virginia, who won.
2. Last season's largest margin of victory over a Division I team was 69 in Nebraska's 106-37 win over Mississippi Valley State. The last three complete seasons all had their largest margin of victory over a Division I team be exactly 69.
3. The previous win over a Division I team by at least 75 was Tennessee's 124-49 win over UNC Asheville on November 17, 2009.
4. Including Grambling's non-Division I win, the SWAC had a 95 point win and 94 point loss in one day.

Some teams, and especially HBCUs, play almost all of their nonconference games away including long trips to teams in top conferences. It must not be fun for the players, and it's not their fault. A lot of the nonconference home games these teams get are non-Division. Mississippi Valley State plays all 12 nonconference games away, and the third shortest trip if done by land is 6:46 to Missouri State. Their losses to Iowa State and Utah are their only games against the P5, but six of their remaining ten are against teams from conferences whose top team is sometimes a bubble team or better. They play three vs. the MAC and one vs. the MVC, WCC, and CUSA. They opened on November 5, and have their home opener on January 4. Another SWAC team is Arkansas-Pine Bluff. They play one non-Division I home game and 12 nonconference away games. They play four at P5s, two at the AAC, Gonzaga, New Mexico State (Top 50 in the NET last season), and Grand Canyon (Top 100 in the NET last season).

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket...id=3221302 is from February 14, 2008 and tells how poor SWAC school Alcorn State is. I'm not saying this should happen, but the only way to avoid blowouts is a spending limit or revenue sharing like pro leagues have.

A spending cap would go over like a fart in church, but it’s exactly what college athletics needs all around. Even then, welcome aboard creative accounting (though that’s kinda in place now with how athletic infrastructure gets spread around the ledgers).
