RE: What's the salary number to keep Norvell?
Yeah, the Strong comment had me scratching my head, but I didn't research it. As I recall, Norvell was tops in G5 until Houston and the Holgorsen thing; Norvell is still #2 in G5.
But $4M for Holgorsen creates a big gap between him and #2. Leave it to Houston to Coog the G5 salary structure. Hope they are happy with their $1M per win in their redshirt season.

RE: What's the salary number to keep Norvell?
I would say the biggest number for keeping Norvel is another 59,900 for the Cincy game and then another 59,900 for the championship game. Those are the numbers that will most impress this guy. He is a team guy he knows the money will follow.

I know that would make him happy but once again that isn't enough to keep him if one of the big boys comes calling. Until we get into a p5 or the AAC is accepted as a p6, you can't ever be as good as you would be otherwise. You have absolutely 0 chance of every being in the college playoffs. Anyone who wants to be the best at what they do will have to be at a place that allows it to happen.

You do know that Kentucky, Indiana, Ole Miss, Michigan State, MissState, UNC, Duke and all other non football powers have a hard time keeping successful coaches?
We will do our best to keep him and when leaves he leaves, the next guy will appreciate what we have built to keep Norvell....... until he leaves or is fired. 50k at every game and a lot of $$$$ coming being spent on AsstCoaches, football in general and facilitates will help.. It is what it is.

Not sure why you are asking me that, or if you quoted the wrong person.. None of the teams you just mentioned were one of the "big boys" that I mentioned.
Of course he shouldnt take a crap p5 job, he doesnt need to. He is just as good here as he would be at any of the schools you mentioned since none of them would be making the playoffs either.

Of course there is, but there is no REALISTIC number. If some billionaire decided to pony up $400,000,000 or $500,000,000 to make us a power in football and we invested an additional $30 - $40,000,000 per year in football including a head coach salary of $10,000,000 guaranteed with a $3,000,000 per for coordinators and $1,000,000 for position coaches with corresponding increases for all aspects of football Norvell would stay , he would have to if he wanted to stay married. Al of this is academic of course , we don't have a Billionaire patron and we cannot compete overall with the financial resource of schools that get $30,000,000 more then us from TV contracts.
What we can do is make it difficult for bottom feeder schools from the B1G , sec and Big12/10 to financially entice our coach. We have done that to a large extent already, we may not pay what they can pay, but Norvell cannot get a 100% raise out of them.
Too bad btiger gives all his money to Ole Miss *sigh*

Ahh November. Colder weather. Leaves changing. Dark at 5:00pm. Totally unsubstantiated message board rumors of Mike Norvell's nefarious past cropping up.

It's gonna take a big job calling to hire him away. I doubt he goes to a local SEC school. If USC or Florida St comes calling, he is gone.

There is an important thing to remember! THERE IS NO COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF! What there is: is an invitational exhibition of made for tv meaningless games. You cannot earn your way into that exhibition. Winning a conference championship is as far as it goes in terms of WINNING anything of significance. The I E (invitational exhibition) is chosen by the talking heads and they are the ones who know their inflated salaries are dependent upon the fantasy that their decisions are what determines the national champion. Every other collegiant champion at every level is determined by a tournament of champions. That is how you determine a national champion.. Until that happens the BCS will never have a champion. Mike Norvel knows hipocracy when he sees it. Happiness cannot be found in a sham award. Look at Saban's face. That is not the face of a man who is happy with that garbage piece of plexiglass.
