change your opinion regarding scheduling and attendance? I still say winning is the biggest factor. What say you?

I dont know what Tigx's opinion is but...

Having a ranked team (winning) playing against another ranked team (winning) definitely had an effect.
I do have to wonder if we would have had a sellout if gameday wasnt involved.

I don't know his opinion either, but I'm still firmly in the camp of improved scheduling.

Gameday doesn't come every year, and if nobody wants to see you play against some of those teams on our schedule, then nobody knows how good we are becoming.

Exactly, playing ranked teams will always put more fans in the LB. And Gameday made it a sellout - and we need more sellouts. UT-Martin, Southern, LA-Monroe, So AL & GA St won't do that even with Gameday. But to the point if we want Gameday & prime time TV games, we have to schedule better rather than count on SMU to be ranked & undefeated & the FB world to not have better games scheduled. The conference schedule will take care of itself, but we need to schedule better OOC to control our ranking rather than to rely upon BSU to lose in a weak MWC- and to have better attendance.

While I have no data to support this, I suspect the first couple of sellouts will be the toughest. Hopefully it’ll become more common.

RE: Tigx, did this weekend....
So we had 59,500 with all the hype and the 901 promotion etc...fantastic

If Gameday was not here, and the game was on ESPN2 or CBSCollege sports but everything else equal, undefeated, ranked and surprising SMU and 7-1 ranked Memphis, there would have still been regular hype and I guess around 43,000 people

Be great to get the norm to 45-50 with big games packed, which would be the same as a huge number of “bigger conference” schools when they are not hosting Alabama or Oklahoma

Analyzing fan support and Tiger football will rip your heart out. There is a solid base of 35k who can be counted upon each week and another 5k or so that will show up if the matchup is compelling... the other 20k that were there Saturday will disappear until the next “event”. I don’t understand it, but then I can understand why 1/4th of our crowd seems to leave in the 3rd quarter.

I dont know how many, but Im sure we gained some more hardcore fans in that game. If we keep winning i bet the Cinci game is close to a sellout.

The good news is that this solid base used to be around 20k. No doubt it has grown.

Exactly. I was going to say the base was once 15,000 and it wasn’t that long ago. Seeing a “so-so” crowd of 35,000 these days represents a huge increase in the fan base. I’m hoping that thousands of those 59,506 fans we had will decide to come back.

A agree with this. Anecdotally, to support this, I saw people there (@ the game + tailgate) that I happen to know around my community that I happen to know are MSU fans, Tennessee fans, Ole Miss fans. We will NEVER turn them into Tigers fans unless we get into the SEC or the BigXII. They just came for the "event".

If we could somehow turn every game into an "event", we might stand a chance. I hate that we have to do backflips just to attract less than 6% of the freaking population of this "Greater Memphis Metro Area" to come out 6 or 7 times per year.

and that's just it,,,,hopefully, last Saturday changes the mentality...this city always responds to big events...

support ALL Tigers, Grizz, 901 and be proud of the passion showed to the rest of the nation, which is second to none
