That's fine, just don't put cross division teams in the final game of the season.

Makes you wonder; if both teams have clinched their divisions; and Memphis and Cincy are the highest ranked Group of 5 teams by far; do you play to win the last game, or not show them anything and leave it all out in the Championship game ???

Better not to risk anything by showing them anything, and taking your chances on the road the next week. Also, go to court and make it illegal for Cincinnati to watch any film of any of our games this season.

Better safe than sorry.

No way. We are MUCH better at home. Much. Last game of the season, they've seen most of our stuff by then. No need to hold anything back.

Well, if Navy runs the table, Memphis can't lose to Cinci, or there will be no next week.

Same if SMU runs the table.

Memphis HAS to win out to make the AAC title game if either of those teams run the table.

I understand everybody's position on this, but I also understand the league's reasoning here. The [Cotton Bowl] goes to the highest ranked champion in the G5. The highest ranking possible comes from two ranked teams playing each other in the championship game. It would be better if the 2 top contenders in each division didn't play each other until the last possible moment to allow their rankings to climb as high as they can before taking a loss.

Personally, I think we should play Houston every Black Friday.

The UH game at their place concerns me most, then the USF game at their place. I think we beat anyone on our schedule at home. But as has been said we control our finish & most likely we have to win out to play in the AAC championship & win the AAC to play in the Cotton Bowl. Good position to be in but it means every game is a must win which comes with added pressure after each week. Just how it ought to be...

I remember some analysis done years ago that showed that - from a poll standpoint - it's much better to take the loss early in the year rather than late. It showed a clear distinction in 1-loss teams that lost early being higher ranked at year-end than 1-loss teams losing late.

So there's that. But even moreso, it's the inter-divisional thing that's the problem. You're setting yourself up for back-to-back games featuring the same teams, and no one wants that. I'd be fine with Memphis-Houston on our side and UCF-Cincy on their side. It would be like a tournament.

UCF-USF is most logical and USF was actually predicted to be one of the better teams.

Same for Memphis-UH. It should be the last game every year.

If we had to play Houston this week after the hype over this past weekend then I would agree I would be concerned but the bye came at a right time to settle the team down. I also believe USF just lost their QB and now they have to play Temple and Cincy before they play Memphis. That’s brutal

Yeah, I'm hoping UH is committed to the tank the rest of the way out.

USF may be demoralized by the time Memphis gets there.

Agreed. Our defense makes me nervous, particularly on the road. I would rather play an undefeated team at home than a 1 or 2 win team on the road.

Then you should be excited that we will be playing a 6 loss team (UH) and a 4 loss team (USF) on the road the next couple of weeks.

Nothing to it.

Wouldn’t we have to drop two since we hold the tie breaker over both Navy and SMU?

No. His assumption is that either SMU or navy run the table, thereby ending with one loss in conference. If we drop one more, that would leave us with two conference losses.

Navy is 5-1 in the conference, SMU is 4-1, and we are 4-1.

If we lose a conference game and Navy or SMU win out, then we don't even get to the tiebreaker. Two conference losses total (not additional) will keep us out of the title game.
