RE: The Morning After
No idea how we will finish but in the process we have gotten tons of experience for our younger players through this. With everyone expected back this weekend (QB unknown still) we should be ready to go for the rest of the season.

RE: The Morning After
We're 6-2 because we have a great defensive head coach and a very weak schedule. I think we're another good recruiting class or two and a great OC away from being able to compete with the best of the AAC and MWC. We can get both of those in before the first kick off at Protective.

RE: The Morning After
Defense played well enough for a win. That answered my question about how well this years unit compares to a mid tier P5 program. We are equivalent talent in the starting 11, and close in the two deep. Get back Street and Harris and add Rayam and Conner at LB and a juco DT and another Jack next year and this is another top 15 defense nationally. Defense will be capable of taking us to a New Years bowl next year.

Based on what I saw at the game Saturday, offense is strong at wideout, good at QB and RB, moderate at TE, and weak to moderate on the Oline. About what I expected. Need better players at right tackle and the guards. Ideally would like to see Wells move to the interior next year and a new right tackle emerge.

Johnston went into that game unconvinced the line could protect him. He rushed his throws and made some terrible reads early and got hit a few times and lost focus. It happens. Particularly in the second season of play in an SEC stadium. He doesnt handle pressure well, yet, and Southern Miss will load up to come after him if he plays Saturday. But he will improve and be better next year, particularly if our line is better and we can threaten a ground game again.

Oline is the gap I dont know how they improve by next year unless they sign a couple of juco studs. The line has definitely improved this year, but we still are unable to consistently run the ball. Not yet a threat against a good defense and TN exploited that well.

Our WRs were not quite prepared for SEC speed. They tried to juke and zig zag a few times rather than turning up field and they gave up some yardage as a result. Defensive backs were too quick for the stuff thwt worked against Rice and ODU.

Running backs. Stanley needed more carries, as did little Brown.

I think Clark and staff knew the oline was outmanned and that Tyler would be pressured like at Wku. I think they expected us to have limited success on the ground and our best chance being a few well placed long balls to our best players. It just didnt work.

I hope Tyler can play saturday but Im not expecting it.

Love to see how that game would have gone if we had come out running the ball, playing to our special teams and defense. We have a very good punter. Make UT drive the length of the field to score.

Oh well, on to the Golden Buzzards.

We have not been able to run against some really bad defenses

No doubt. I'm talking about snapping the ball three times and punting without spotting the other team the ball in your red zone. Then force them to make mistakes deep in theirs. Take your shots down the field when you have field position. It's exactly how we beat LSU long ago. Doesn't work so well if you have no defense, a bad punter, or the opposition has a great O. Seems like the conditions may have been right but water under the bridge.

We have a realistic shot of finishing 10-2 for the regular season and hosting the championship game. In a rebuilding year. That is just nuts!

Not sure if it is a realistic shot but there is a chance.

I think TJ and Spencer both came into the season thinking the line couldn’t protect them imho.

Conference games are important and winning/repeating as conference champions is great, but there's something to be said about knocking off a P5 on the road (especially an SEC team). That's the kind of win that will really get the casual fan in Bham's attention and potentially help on the attendance front.

i said it many time ,,,,that game was for money ,,we need to win conference USA ,,,,when we are better and we have a chance to go undefeated ,,,,that sec money game will be important ...right now we are playing it for money

The Southern miss is more important ,,they had 2 week to prepare for us
Tn show me that are not very good OR we are getting better players ,,,,they had the ball inside our 30 yards line most of the game and cannot do anything without the help of the ref ,,,,we look at lot better then 2 years ago when we play Florida ,,we lost both game ,,,,i didnt see a much better talent fron TN compare then 2 years ago at Florida

I disagree you play to win the game, all these games have the same amount of importance. P5 win would’ve been Clark’s signature win hands down .

I understand your point but I am telling you now and i SAID it before
it was a money game even the coach tell us after the game ...trust me on this one
fyi
recruiting is done for next year and a lost can be use in recruiting ,,,,aka "you need better player like you etc and you may have a great chance to start "

Trust me Clark needs some P5 wins, we know it’s a money game all the other HCs scheduled two money games. Had we really prepared for TN and won since this was the weakest game since the return we would’ve been the talk of college football outside of the playoff contenders.

I doubt recruiting is done this or next year with the portal growing everyday.

As long as we play P5 money games late in the season an upset will be even more difficult, especially when vying for the (more important) conference title...

Lol we get it the same division he’s only loss one game too, but to get to be a national program you should prepare for a 3 win TN team or schedule another game in the slot like Alabama state it’s not like we’ve beating top 50 teams

I have to say, I agree with this. We all like to talk the conference talk--and I want to win a league championship as much as anyone. But when we talk about our great wins, the first one that usually comes out of people's mouths is our 2000 win over a mediocre LSU team--not the more important conference wins we have had, like beating 17th ranked East Carolina on national TV, or thumping TCU on that ESPN Friday night game, or beating a ranked Southern Miss team a few years back.

We also talk about how weak our conference is, yet we want to put all of our eggs in the basket of winning our conference, instead of making a statement to recruits and potential ticket-buying local fans who would put much more stock in a win over Tennessee than they would La. Tech or North Texas.

To suggest we didn't really prepare much for that game because it was JUST a money game was the one thing that Coach Clark has done in his tenure at UAB that embarrassed me.

I think he did the same thing last year in the first MTSU game, knowing we had a better chance of beating them the next week when we had everyone back. And, in the end, that turned out okay. I hope we sweep through the last four games of our conference schedule and he is able to come out with a big "I told you so." But I certainly don't like the idea of not going all out trying to prepare to win EVERY game on the schedule.

Plus...if we want to be the next Boise State, Central Florida, Houston, et al., then we have to beat the P-5 schools when we get a chance. Those schools gained their notoriety by lining up and beating the big boys. And when we get a chance we need to do that, especially against a 3-5 team. Winning our conference in and of itself, while nice for us since we never have done that before until last year, is not what is going to get you into the national discussion. And the fact that we are still in on some pretty highly ranked recruits, and in some cases our competition includes Tennessee,, means that you can't lay such an egg like we did Saturday night and expect to get those players.

Just look at our expectations now. Man winning will change your whole outlook. I watched the game and the vols blitzed corners, water Boys, and even fans out of the stands to confuse our quarterback. So just think our fanbase is upset at loosing a money game....that's good stuff. Blazers expect to win them all now. A good place to be!

Exactly!!!!! And when our coach says he didn’t prepare as much as he could have. We should be enraged. Because it’s a slap in the face to all the players, students, alumni, boosters, fans! We have been through a lot and we deserve the best at all times, after all it is the fans paying for the football program. The goal is to win every game, not pick and choose which ones we are going to go all in on and try to win.
