Thanks to mpleafan for finding the info on Murphy's contract: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1ZJrUW...ZT1VV/view

I didn't mean to play cat and mouse with posters here but I did hear a rumor earlier this year that Murphy's contract extends through 2020/21 season. I did not, however, want to post on it because I could not find the information online.

mpleafan came through and found the contract. I, and others, were able to find Murphy's previous contract, not the one he signed June 2018.

I had no idea about this contract. Thanks to mpleafan and Steve for sharing!

So looks like Murphy is as rewarded with a new contract for the 11-7 MAC finish and semi finals run. That makes sense. I hat does not mak sense is pepping the 20 win season automatic extension.

Overall not a bad contract, the salary is very reasonable. Murphy is not going to truly compete for the MAC championship, but at least he will keep EMU out of it he cellar.

Yep. Thanks to mpleafan for finding it. I went searching the Internet yesterday and only found the old contract. And then bingo. The article drops and mpleafan finds it.

And, a quick pivot. I do really like that apparently the Bates family and Murphy are friends.

Always want that 1% chance ala the 1969 N.Y. Mets and 2019 Washington Nationals.

God knows maybe Emoni's father is hired as an asst coach and... (if the NBA still has the one and done rule).

That would be an interesting scenario. And somewhat possible (in the 1% category as you say) given how he opted to stay low key and play at Lincoln.

After all, EMU basketball gets sports illustrated covers, remember Earl Boykins in 1997??? Emoni might fit in very well.04-cheers

SF 6-8 Groce/ 6-6 Gibson/ 6-6 Dillard

i wouldn't be surprised to see Groce come off the bench.

Why do you suggest that, in favor of Gibson? Or to get more minutes for both Morgan and Montero? Other?

Murphy would find a way to ruin even Bates.

Excellent info thanks! I was just figuring out what my donation to EMU would be this year and when I found out that we needlessly extended this coach, I have decided on a number, ZERO!

Extra $35K/year for a radio show EMU is obligated to provide him with.

$30K yearly retention bonus.

15 wins last year earned him another $20K for what was a horrible season.

The 20 win renewal clause is still in effect.

Murphy is responsible for competitive scheduling? Public relations? Fund raising? Hard to hold him accountable in these areas with no defined standards but if compared to Creighton, I think he falls miserably short. He is far too busy living in NY and writing books for such menial tasks.

I dumped $10K into the SAPC project but if the University has the money for a Murphy contract like this, they certainly need no more from me.

The fact that he's under contract until 2021 really explains all the JUCO's and transfers! He'll coach them both years! But, Murphy's salary for a MAC coach is low as well! Compare it to Ohio U, Akron, Toledo, etc...….I didn't look at all the MAC coaches salaries, but I would bet out of twelve schools, his salary is in the bottom 2 or 3!

By the report:

Whitesall Buffalo $300,000K
Whitford BSU 316,000
Davis CMU 300,000
Monty NIU 300,000
Hawkins WMU 225,000
Kampe Oakland 311,000

At face value I would say that Murph is doing rather well! Then again we would have to pour over the contracts as it is obvious that Rob makes far more than the $315K as advertised and I presume others are as well.

Toledo pays Candle, their football coach less than a half million to coach the team but another half million for marketing and such. This is astute, if they fire him, they only owe him his coaching salary.

When Creighton was extended, EMU made a big deal of it, however I just learned of the Murphy extension today and I am pissed for sure! They lost a small donor today, not just for basketball, but the entire athletics program. Blaming predecessors won't cut it, Wetherbee's and Smith's signatures are clearly on the contract.

Jerry, thanks for doing all of that! Shocking at Hawkins salary, he has been at W Mich for a very long time! Ohio U was paying the coach they fired a ton of money!

Naw Jim, Rob takes his seniors to Pikes Peak, has his team volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and reaches out to the community and first responders. Oh wait, that was Creighton!

Rob writes books from Syracuse instead.

Apparently the other MAC schools consider a later start more fan friendly and I cannot agree more. For someone like EMU 79 to attend such a game from the Lansing area, it requires a departure time close to 10:00 AM in the morning, for many hardly a sleep-in Saturday.

Murphy apparently thinks this will give him an advantage vs. WMU, CMU and Akron, perhaps by limiting the opposing crowd but it has not worked that well in the past. Then again the other MAC coaches and their families live near campus, there is no need to clear the Saturday game from their personal schedule so early in the weekend.

I actually like the noon games. Go out to breakfast, You see more families and kids at the game. Students do not show up as much but they are never really a factor since we moved to the Convo. Easier to get younger alums in my opinion to the games at noon then 3 or 5 or 7 on a saturday.

Fan, I like you love the noon games, but like you I am local. If we are going to build a true regional fan base it might be better to follow the rest of the MAC's established preferred game time of 2:00. An EMU "Hall of Fame" basketball member mentioned to me that our noon game times were "Due to our ******* coach", a direct quote to be sure.

Just got the download version of Blue Ribbon Yearbook (I've been distracted with the Nationals World Series run and EMU and pro FB and NBA and the Virginia elections).

Couple of thoughts:

1). Binnelli is a real stretch 4. Best shooter on the team.

2). Miles Gibson appears to be a medical redshirt with an ACL. Noah Morgan is likely to start at '3'.

3). We have two recruits from Spire Institute in Ohio, one of those hoop factories.

4). Wooten is our ace recruiter and has tons of experience and contacts along the East Coast. Look at his bio and our recruiting... See a lot of connections to N.Y. and N.J.

That’s all that stood out? Sounds like it’ll be a long year, especially without Gibson.

Without Gibson, it'll be a long year! He on film other then Thomas looked the best! I thought he had potential to be a 12-15 point scorer, and 6 rebounds every night! Binelli does one thing well, and that's shoot the three!
