Agreed.
Poor TJ read too many of his clippings after his freshman year.
We were surprised Buechele didn’t throw deep more often on TJ, bc it either resulted in a big play, penalty or first down.
He had some good tackles when he kept the ball in front of him.
After Wake, I was hoping he learned his lesson but I heard him quote that nobody can get behind him on bump and run this year and just shook my head. That scheme and his cockiness needs a reset during the off week.

We knew the lofty passing D rankings were mis-skewed for weeks due to the early scheduling, run oriented offenses, low efficiency QBs we had played. And Buechele has a cannon with quality receivers. But half his incompletions were over throws, and he was missing his best receiver. It wasn’t just TJ. We are really missing Blake too.

Finally, a receiver should NEVER get behind a defense when up by 13+ in the 4th quarter so both our corners, safeties and D coaches gotta earn this lofty ranking over the next 3-4 weeks. (Sadly the same thing happened in the bowl game twice in the fourth quarter, I was hoping the new D Coordinator would be better but in this area, same Memphis)

I agree. You would think in film the coordinators would be pointing this out.

Not disagreeing with any of this, but SMU has made everybody they have played look like they’ve only got 9 men on defense. They have a great offense, well executed by skilled players. They just do.
We outscored them, is all.

RE: Let's be for real
In no way was it an overall good effort by the defense, and especially the last two drives by SMU when they added a quick 16 points to make the end more dramatic than it needed to be

They had a good offense, and they scored 6 TDS (with 3 2 point XPs) and added a FG. Right before the half they ran a single play that ran out the clock so that possession does not really count

In a high scoring game like this, they scored 7 times. And Memphis held them to punts on SIX other drives. And it seems that 2 of their drives were heavily aided with close third down pass interference calls. So not good but not as bad as the statistics would make it seem

Memphis scored on 11/13 possessions, punting twice. Really 10/12 if you don’t count the TD return. We crushed them on special teams.

Before the very end they had scored 5 times and punted six. Or kids looked like they mentally checked out after the TD to go up 54-32, which you cannot do

Not good defense, but not as bad, and played to the score a bit

Weakest block in the back call ever. Took return TD off the board.

Replay got us again. Inconclusive doesn't mean what the dictionary says it means, apparently. Yet another TD off the board. Same drive, how did Magnifico drop that pass?!?!

Every 50/50 call went SMOO's way. Turrrrble. Still over came it for the win.

Our guys are in position to breakup or knock down many passes but they refuse to look back for the ball - and this leads to most of the pass interference calls. Hall had interception go right thru his hands in the endzone & TJ was in position to breakup several 3rd down completions all because they didn't /wouldn't look back for the ball.
