Love seeing that much blue in the stands!
Awesome video! Beautiful sunset too when you panned that way.
Hearing those young tiger fans cheer is absolutely incredible.... # TheFutureGeneration
Yea those kids were some kind of excited.

At the game, it was very full.
On tv, it looked like some uppers were empty in the blimp shots - but I think that was the poor lighting up high causing that illusion.

Memphis looked big time on TV. It was a great look on CGD, and an absolute success on prime time TV. Looking at other social media posts by non-Tiger fans I saw a ton of comments about how this was one of the most entertaining college games of the season and how good Memphis looked.

It definitively started thinning out in the 4th quarter but at its peak there were very few empty seats.

And they missed a great ending. Should've stayed until the clock hit zero and then soaked it all in.

Heard AD Veatch on Calkins last week and GC asked him how we reported attendance. He said we do it comparable to the rest of the industry. We use a formula of various data points - sales, distributed, scans, vendors, students, staffs.
Hard to believe, but it's what he said.
Then let's compare. ESPN reports Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn has a capacity of 67,000 and change. Yet Auburn reported 84,000+ people at Saturday's game.
Talk about your standing room only.
There are a lot of unanswered questions regarding attendance, and not just for college football.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that 67k capacity number is wrong. It's an +80k stadium.
That's the only thing that makes sense.
However, there's no denying that there is a high degree of generosity in reporting attendance. Not necessarily Memphis, but a lot of schools.

RE: 59,506
it's a sellout in that all the seats were sold but you always have folks that buy tickets in 'spirit' with no plans of showing up just to support the program along with people who have unexpected issues pop up and can't attend.
it looked like ~56,000 Tiger fans, ~1,000 SMU fans and roughly 2,600 empty but sold seats.

It was homecoming. students left over a period of time in the second half to go to homecoming parties. Many more stayed than usual.
Gate 3 was impossible to get through since everybody showed up at once. many people were late getting in due to trying to act like this was a 30k crowd.
Somebody who stayed on Tiger lane maybe can share but I know some never went inside and chose to watch the game on the grounds.
People were still showing up in the second quarter.
We always have the "got to get to my car before the game is over" crowd.
I get tired of the conversation. The stadium looked great. The crowd looked great. there was only a tiny drip of red in sea of blue. The world saw good stuff. Nothing but good stuff. And we won the freaking game. Embrace it!

How could you leave early in a game like that?

I saw some leave at halftime. I guess they came for homecoming.

I was shocked (pleasantly)!
I think it was a combination of up to 13 1/2 hours of partying and the fact that kickoff was scheduled for 7:44 and not right on the scheduled hour or 5 minutes after it.

wife and i went to the next gate and had no problem
only a few steps out of the way, since we sit on the 50 yard line

I've not had one person down here say a bad thing about the Memphis game or gameday this week. Arguing about a handful of vacant or unused seats is about as silly as bitching about the color of our basketball court.
