Maybe the "bad under pressure" knock is a false narrative?

Last year early in the season a gentle breeze would knock him down. Much better this year at staying in the pocket under pressure. He still can't take a much of a hit and they are rolling him out more to give him time. He does need to secure the ball better when he's going down. Almost had a turnover because of that in the SMU game.

He has gotten much braver but he still drops the ball when he gets hit.

At any rate, I’m glad to see Brady playing well. I’m not sure we had a better option anyways.

With friends like that who needs enemies. There is the stupid blame Brady for the rain stuff. Lulz

People in Fowler's national position usually don't watch enough plays of players in conferences like the AAC and rely strictly on stats. Most people that watch their team game in and game out can see the strengths and weaknesses of their team and its players. Definitely a high level stat, but we've seen what Brady has done in the past under pressure while still post strong stats.

Completion percentage doesn't take into account the number of times he is sacked when he is under pressure...

If I am under pressure 15 times and complete 6 passes, 4 incomplete passes and 5 sacks that is 60% and that isn't necessarily elite. I would rather have a guy who wen 6-15 when he was under pressure by throwing the ball away.

And I would also need someone to define what "Pressure" is.

All that said Brady has proven he can get it done and Norvell has figured out how to get him time...What else really needs to be said.

Running. BW should only run when he is already running. If he is stationary he doesn't have the acceleration to run. But if he is already rolling out he can get a few yards. He needs to do this some to keep the defense honest.

I understand your point, and many made the same a month ago. The question is: If CMN had benched Brady a month ago, Conor Adair would’ve played. What would our record be right now? What would our post season expectations be right now? I don’t think the answers to those questions are good at all. That means that CMN is smarter at football and than those clamoring to bench him then and way smarter and better than those still saying he should’ve been benched then. Sometimes, it’s better to say “I was wrong” than to continue pushing a clear losing opinion. Lord knows I’ve done it more times than I can count.

Now that we have been pretty good for a while and especially this season where we were likely a single play away from being undefeated small things get magnified and we almost forget we are 8-1 with a QB with those numbers

The 4 turnovers in the Temple game combined with a poor first half with Navy will stick with him because our goals are no longer getting to 7-5 or 6-6 and making a bowl

It is a glorious problem.

Your post is a classic 'glass half empty' meme.

Most teams attempt to avoid passing the football in the rain. For the same reason Brady White has struggled in the rain.

The stats tell a complete picture over a large sample. When Brady White has protection and can step into his throws, he is very very good. When he has to scramble, like many pocket passers, he is not as accurate. How did the best QB in NFL history do Sunday night against a good pass rush?

RE: Brady White
Brady absolutely should have been benched earlier in the season. Brady has also started to look like the QB scouts thought he could be. However, the most dramatic change has been our playcalling. We went from trying to hide Brady on every play for the last 1.5 years to letting him actually play QB. Shocker that a borderline 5* QB recruit is better as a QB than as a game manager.

RE: Brady White
Very little about Brady White has changed. He did not sprout an arm that could heave the ball 50 yards in the air and hit a runner in stride overnight.

What has changed is that the o-line is much improved, and the receivers are not only making catches they should, they are making herculean catches at times. Couple that with a running threat, and it opens things up.

What hasnt changed yet are the penalties. Show me a 3 and out, and I'll show you a series that likely had at least 10 yards in offensive penalties.

That says it all.

Edsit: Just the bold part. I don't agree he should have been benched. I think we're 6-3, maybe 7-2 without White.

Bottom line: Norvell knows what he's doing. We might not want to believe that, but it's true.

I just watched the game broadcast for the first time and gained a different perspective than watching it live. There were a lot of penalties called to be sure but on balance I'm not sure they affected the outcome that much. Aside from 1 really awful no call facemask/horsecollar, a phantom push in the back where the runner turned his shoulder into the play at the last second and 2 questionable PI's, we racked up most of the penalty yardage legitimately, IMHO. Gotta get a handle on that.

Spoken like someone arguing against a very strong factual stat, lol.

Fowler's prep before games is legendary. I've watched, I believe, all-but-one game White has ever played for us. I've never felt handling pressure was his problem (and the stat supports this). His problem is that he is very weak with in tuck-and-run situations, which leads to an inability to escape the rush and fumbles.

Penalties really didnt affect the SMU game as much, primarily because we scored nearly every time we had the ball. We only had two punts (one of those series had a penalty that made it 2nd and 19), turned over on downs on the first play, and victory formation at the end. Every other play was a score.

But offensive penalties were killing our drives earlier in the year. Some of them had 2 motion penalties, and I seem to remember one series where we had 2 motion penalties and a hold.

RE: Brady White
BW had a great game, probably his best to date. The o-line also kept him clean for the most part. Those 2 go hand in hand. On a few occasions where he was pressured and had to scramble he nearly fumbled once, had an intentional grounding penalty and nearly threw an INT when backed up in our own end zone. I still think he has room for improvement in this area, but he looked dynamite when given the time in the pocket.

I also think the arm strength thing is overblown. He made several really nice pinpoint passes downfield, hitting our receivers in stride.
