Think the fans will be satisfied with Norvell?

Not with him spending all his time in Vegas.

RE: Norvell
I'm excited that CMN is enjoying Memphis. He mentioned that he has been hoping for turnout like last Saturday. I think there's a lot in that statement. That plus choosing to take a lower salary to maintain only a $500K buyout might mean he has aspirations of bigger. Some may say that a national championship can't be won at these other schools, but if you're in a P5 conference and run the table, you will get into the playoff with the chance to play for a national championship. If we run the table, we may not get into the playoff. I think that's the difference maker.

RE: Norvell
Its going to be impossible to keep Norvell. But its not impossible for him to see what really happens to most every college coach in a pressure situation and for him to decide to stay here. They get fired. And never get another crack at it. Its hard to win in the AAC with 3 star (and lower) recruits. We still haven't won a conference championship.

Its much harder in the ACC, SEC, B10 to win anything, unless you're Clemson, Alabama, etc.

There are probably less than 20 jobs out of the over 200 that will get you in the 4 team play offs, everybody else is just playing second fiddle, season after season, decade after decade. Mississippi has never even played for a conference championship and probably never will.

He's making millions, MILLIONS, and is working hard and having fun and appreciated here, and this side of 3-4 losing seasons in a row, will never lose his job. His life would probably be better staying here for 10 more years, he'd still be young, 10 years from now he's 48.

If he's a championship level coach, wait until then, there will be an opening. At 48 he can land at an Alabama or Ohio State and have the knowledge and experience to make it happen. If he leaves now and fails to really win big, he's fired and will never have another chance to do better than he can right here. He could end up offensive coordinator at Rutgers in 4 years if things don't go perfect at a second fiddle P5 job.

Yep, the jobs he would leave for, he would leave for regardless of the money (of course those jobs would pay well anyway). If Alabama called right now and said Saban was going to retire after this season and they would pay him 3mil a year, no amount of money we offered would keep him here.

I think that we are “tilting at windmills” to discuss Coach Norvell’s future. I personally hope that he stays here until he retires. Based on past history, that’s probably not going to happen.

We still have 3 regular season games to play, and a likely Conference Championship game if we win out. Speculation about Norvell’s future is entertaining to some, I suppose, but since I have no idea what will happen, I’m going to concentrate on the games and let the coaching carousel take care of itself.

I agree with that, but I don't understand that mentality. That seems like a circus I would avoid like the plague. Could you imagine what Nick Saban's average day is like? No thanks...

We ended the year in a 3 way tie at 7-1 with Cincinnati and UCF, there was no championship game, they lost their bowl games and we won ours, so OK. Not the same thing.

Oh yeah, neither would I, but people with personalities like Saban at the very least can contain it. His attitude lets you know just how far you can go with him, which isn't very far.

But, that is one of the reasons I can never be against the 1%. If I were Fred Smith with Fred Smith money, I would have retired about 20 years ago and been traveling the world and living for enjoyment. People like Fred Smith are why the rest of us have jobs. My employment would be tipping the cocktail waitress on the beach.

RE: Norvell
Mike will get good offers this yr, a couple of things will play into this, I believe he likes Memphis, very important.
He is a young man and has time to build a tremendous program and a good possibility of moving us into a more glamorous conference and be a legendary coach like Bobby Bowden or Jimmy JOHNSON?
However if he is offered mega bucks from a lower tier BIG or sec, he has a tough choice take the money or stay at Memphis where he is greatly appreciated and build the power conference invite, of course we will have to pay him considerably more than he's making now, but there r peeps in all business that if they r happy and being treated fairly, they will opt for happiness, and security and Mike knows we can't match sec money but he also knows he's dealing with fans that r ruthless if he's not walking on water in two yrs.
A problem most of us would like to have but, he'll make the right decision. I personally worry more about the Arizona schools, but Mike knows Memphis
