Thanks!
OK, why was Ball State running so well in the second half? You can see in the highlights, they had a guy on every defender at the point of attack. It was excellent play design, excellent blocking, excellent vision from the running backs.
Our linemen were doing OK, but not winning battles. They were holding Holley. The linebackers and safeties weren't taking great angles.
Ball State just executed superbly. They were doing enough sideline to sideline stuff to keep us from stacking up the middle. You gotta have a guy win a battle one on one to beat that.

It looked to me in the 3rd and 4th that the LB's were letting the blocks get to them. Lots of on the heels or lateral movement, but little attacking the gaps.

Yeah, they did seem a little tentative. It's hard to say without knowing what we were doing. It looked like they were expecting a play action pass that never came. Kudos to Ball State for sticking to success and not feeling like they have to pass just to even it out. During the game I was yelling for some run blitzes and maybe we really should have.

Quote:Side note... after the opening cannon shot from "boomer" the cannon was LOUD again... Maybe they finally got the regular loads back in the program!
I think it was because the sound echo'd against all the aluminum seats within the stadium! No volume increase required! :)

I’d normally agree with that assessment... but I was in the seelye and you could feel it... inside! Previously it was just like a small firework...
