Don't be sorry my friend, I appreciate the observation and have heard the same from other attendees. The Convo is a community asset and if we are to exploit its true potential to the community, EMU, Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti Township and Pittsfield Township all need to assist in this effort. If you were to "knee jerk" identify a villain, I would suspect the City, the administration there reminds me of Detroit prior to Duggan.
Excluding the concourses - which i think are in desperate need of something - anything, the in stadium space of the convo is fantastic. the building itself generates a lot of cash for the school and thats great. i wish theyd sell the naming rights though.

We have some facilities with naming rights potential. As indicated, the Convo.
How about the SCOREBOARD?
The SAPC could easily be the " (name) Student Athletic Performance Center"
The IPF has naming with St. Joes.

Since they dumped Dominos as a vendor and replaced it with Little Ceasars that would be awkward

Actually I think Prez Smith has looked into this. It would hardly be unprecedented as OSU plays in Value City Arena. Personally I think a local car dealer group like Suburban, Lafontaine or Cueter would be a better prospect than the pizza guys. Nonetheless in order to maximize the endorsement we will need to do something first. Field a successful men's basketball program.

If someone wants to put their name on something, I'd think the SAPC or scoreboard would be easier.
I don't remember what the amounts are for the scoreboard or SAPC but they certainly are less than the Convo.

Bates will stay in Michigan and play for the Green and White*
* The school in E. Lansing, not Ypsilanti.
He is not playing at MSU, that commitment is two years off. A year ago he declared that he would graduate from Lincoln, today he is off to Arbor Prep. He might even be gone to the G-League after this year. I wish him well.

It's not Arbor Prep. They are starting their own "school" so they can travel all over and play hoops. As a person who like tradition and thinks kids (and parents) need to pump breaks and not be in such a hurry for stardom I'm not a big an of that strategy.
Agree that he'll never play at MSU.

I'm guessing Ypsi Prep will play all of their home games at the Convo. We could see some premier high school teams in Ypsi like IMG.

Nickle you are correct, I originally typed Ypsi Prep and realized there was no such school, so I changed it. My bad.
I am also with you on letting kids be kids. Earvin Johnson graduated from good ole Everett High in Lansing and he is hardly hurting for money. Alas, however, the world has changed, you will never see a Michael Jordan play three years of NCAA basketball. This early "professionalization" of high school athletics definitely sparked the recent FBI probe that snared the Bowen kid from Saginaw and Louisville but there is simply no legal way to stop it. It is what it is and in my opinion it does suck.
HuronEagle your post is indeed interesting. I have no idea where this new "school" will play home games but they have indeed constructed a star studded roster of Michigan HS athletes. While we have no idea at this time how attendance will be handled come basketball season, the Convo presents an alluring venue for such a team and I am all for that.

This stuff is crazy.
Okay, Bates went from Lincoln to the prep school.
A bunch of players transferred to Lincoln to be part of the Bates show.
What do they do now? Do some transfer to the prep school?
EDIT: Here is a new Mlive article:
https://www.mlive.com/highschoolsports/2...alent.html
All said and done, maybe having a prep school in Ypsi just might be a good thing for EMU. You'd think maybe we could get some recruits from it.

Does the school close when Emoni graduates? It is crazy but I'm glad he's staying in-state and not going to one of these basketball factories in another state. If Ypsi Prep sticks around for years, it could be a positive thing for EMU basketball.

BTW, the big hoop story in D.C. today is that 5 star recruit, Makur Maker, verbaled to Howard, a HBCU in Washington, D.C.
https://theundefeated.com/features/top-h...for-hbcus/
He specifically wanted to be part of a movement toward HBCU programs. A trailblazer.
Bates went the opposite, he gave up an opportunity to be a difference maker at EMU to go a blue blood school, MSU.

I applaud the young man's decision for sure.
I still don't see Bates ever suiting up for MSU.
One year ago, Emoni stated that he would never go to a basketball preparatory school and would instead graduate from Lincoln. Now we are being presented with the idea that TWO years from now, he will be a Spartan. Yeah right.
