Memphis is hosting College Gameday this week. Memphis. The team that Tommy West berated because they didn't care enough about their football program. The team we used to count as a sure win. That Memphis is hosting College Gameday.

It honestly makes me sick.

Now I get it, they have a TON of money from FedEx, but our programs have continued to go in completely opposite directions. I've seen some on here and many on the main board say the move to the AAC wouldn't be worth it if it opened up, but that entire mindset is ridiculous. The fact that MEMPHIS is hosting College Gameday...just wow.

They've completely earned it this year. They've won and are a top 25 team hosting another top 25 team. It's a big matchup for them, no doubt. But here we sit, arguing over a coach bringing us to 7-5 in the absolute worst conference in the country should be here next year. Part of me wants Tommy West to come scream at our administration to either care about the program and do what's necessary to bring it to the level it should be at, or kill it and invest those finances into basketball and baseball.

Every day in this conference is another reminder of what we once were and how far we've fallen. We have to invest, dominate, and do whatever we can to get out. If we settle for mediocrity at this time, we may miss our last chance to get on the boat. And if that happens, well, let's just say we'll miss the days of playing FAU, North Texas, and UAB as we look upon our conference schedule of SELA, Mercer, and Central Arkansas.

Sorry, just had to vent.

I definitively agree with you on this one. Memphis people Memphis. The team we beat the crap out of for ever now is light years ahead of us as it pertains to relevancy. However i do need to remind you that west was here for all 12 of ellllllos losses. lol

I’m not saying West was remotely good, but his speech when fired seems to have spurred their administration to put up or shut up.

It all starts and ends with the coaching hires. There’s nothing TO invest until the fans buy in and provide the resources. We’re in the best conference that’ll have us (we wouldn’t be in it otherwise), so we can only play the cards dealt us on that front for the foreseeable future. The only other option is a winning, entertaining product. We need people who can do more with less until that eventually translates into more with which to do.

Of course, we’ve also been a Top 20 team in the past and still struggled with support, so who knows how far that can even take us over the long haul.

My concern at this point isn’t keeping up with anybody else. That ship’s probably sailed. I just want to be the best us we can be.

USM football is pretty much over. It's been that way since the AAC snubbed us. I still go to all of the games and follow us closely, but we aren't going to ever be relevant again. I've put all my focus in basketball and baseball.

I used to poundcake their arse for ignoring football....many of their posters agreed during those years...

maybe when the next version of realignment takes shape, we'll be seeing them once again on the field and the court....

in 5 yrs., top 20 will have a different meaning....

the NCAA will be toast as the flagship schools form their own country club....

the leftovers will tell them fk off too as the jr. divisions coagulate/coalesce....

if I live long enough to see it go down in court battles/congressional hearings, it's gonna be one helluva hoot to witness...

no, it lit a fire with the power brokers. within 2 years the university president, athletic director and most of that staff were gone. a fantastic president was hired, a competent athletic director and staff came in and cleaned up a huge mess and the power brokers found justin fuente. the cherry on top was wresting control of the university from the Tennessee Board of Regents and being governed by our own board of regents. the incredible leaps and growth of U of M can be measured from that point

My point being it was a catalyst to improving the program.

toss in you guys finally got rid of Pastner (what took ya so long is still an enigma) and it should become win/win with FedEx cabbage....

IMO, out of all the g5 programs, you guys are in the driver's seat to make the next level....

while fedex swings a big stick, they arent the only cow being milked around here. they've done a great job expanding the donor pool the past 7 years

While the AAC is a step above our conference, their improvement has mostly to do with a change in administration and coaches. We had ample opportunity to improve ourselves, but we constantly shoot ourselves in the foot right up to the present. A good example was the Art Briles situation. I am still shaking my head over that one. We would rather stay mediocre and play prostitution games rather than trying to take a step forward and think out of the box. I have been seeing it coming for years.

FYI, ESPN filmed a feature on Kenny Gainwell, his brother, and family to air on Sat. Sounds like Curtis really wanted to play for USM...sad story.
