Dude has 13 assists and 3 turnovers in two games.

Lomax is second with nine (but seven turnovers).

Lester and Boogie with three each.

Tyler seems to really be playing within himself and appears to have bought into the idea he isn't the guy that has to shoot to be on the court.

Agree.
It’s a new look for him, but you can learn to be a pass-first point guard.

That, coupled with the fact Tyler had 14 assists and only one turnover in the Bahamas.

Baugh, Boogie and Lester.

We are going to need size on the court and we are also going to have to play defense like we did at the end of last year.

We cannot attempt to play defense like we started last year...Pressing teams for turnovers works in spurts and teams have way more ball handlers now then they have had in the past so it is much more difficult to turn teams over.

I think Tyler benefits from coming off the bench. Observing the game and then coming in seems better for him. He does play at a different speed and has been great at getting out in front of the defense on the break and passing. Our other guards for now seems to look for their own offense off the break. Tyler experience is showing.

I also like the fact that although his shot has been off, he's still finding ways to contribute.

Lomax is a better rebounder, a little more turnover prone and shoots a better percentage. He seems to have a steadying influence. I would like to see Baugh more though.

Harris: 23 minutes, 6 assists, 2 turnovers, 4 rebounds, 1-3 shooting 5 pts
Harris: 25 minutes, 7 assists, 1 turnover, 1 rebound, 2-9 shooting, 6 pts
Harris totals: 48 minutes, 13 assists, 3 turnovers, 5 rebounds, 3-12 shooting, 11 pts.

Lomax: 21 minutes, 5 assists, 4 turnovers, 6 rebounds, 2-4 shooting 4 pts
Lomax: 16 minutes, 4 assists, 3 turnovers, 4 rebounds, 3-4 shooting 10 pts
Lomax total: 37 minutes, 9 assists, 7 turnovers, 10 rebounds, 5-8 shooting 14 pts

If either Harris or Lomax "need" to start, Memphis will not have an elite season.

Not really true.

Memphis (in that scenario) will likely have four frosh starting--all of which can score and rebound. Adding a steady influence to run the offense makes a lot of sense. That then allows another dynamic frosh to come off the bench and add to that area.

Furthermore, as the OP thread title states: "at least for now" is there to allow the frosh to get acclimated to the college game. At some point it could change.

Dead on the money.

Plus, since Baugh went out in the CBU game and didnt play the LOC game, it is hard to compare what he may have done.

If you go back to the Bahamas, too:

Lomax: 9.5 ppg, 4.0 rebs, 3.8 ast, 75% 3pt (3-4)

Of note:

Tyler: 14 assists, 1 turnover. 8-9 FT.
Lomax: 15 assists, 6 turnovers, 16 steals.

Ehh.. go back and watch the game tape along with the box scores. Tyler has looked good as a secondary playmaker but still looks shaky as the guy who starts the offense. He is better off-ball and most of his scoring is off the catch so you would either be starting a 5'9" wing player or limiting his effectiveness but putting him at PG.

I was at both games and he looked more comfortable than any of the frosh when running the offense.

Plus, he was GREAT at leading the breaks (which Memphis has claimed will be an integral part of starting the offense).

I'm not saying Harris is "better" than the frosh, just that to start the season, it might benefit the team to have someone with some experience to start.

Harris is going to figure out how to be a great player, to much speed and potential. The kid is just a sophomore and never anything other than a scorer his whole life. He can and imo will develop into a all star caliber guard. Also I’m not sold on Lomax being a high level player. Well liked, I get that, but to much talent to give him to much court time. Just my opinion

The offense runs so much more smoothly when Lomax is in the game. Boogie is just not a PG (at least at this point in his career). He's a good shooter and can put up points. Penny will have to decide whether he wants Boogie's numbers/offense or Lomax's distribution abilities and defense.

Baugh is our guy at pg 2 months from now, when the "game slows down for him" and all that.
Til then, Tyler is a good option, especially with our depth at guard, helping him out from the bench..
I love Alex as a change of pace-he's strong and a better rebounder per inch than most anyone. He's built like Daryl Henderson.
Boogie is a shooting guard, IMO. If he stuck around as long as Jeremiah Martin did he might be converted to PG, but I don't think anyone expects him to stay very long.

Harris looks more comfortable as a 2.
Lomax should be a 1, but, needs to try to control the floor a little more.

Like Coach Penny has said, the whole team needs to concentrate on boxing out. Their rebounding is lacking.

He led the team in assists (6) last night and only took 3 shots.

Vs. CBU he had 7 assists.

I must say I agree with both of you. His numbers are great and he offers leadership to such a young team, however, he does NOT look comfortable. In fact, at the CBU game (I missed the LO game) my section discussed how lost he looked.
