I thought that Phase I of the project was suppose to be completed in April? Well, why did the coaches just moved in? In addition, I thought the bridge was suppose to be complete this spring as well? Yet, Rudd is tweeting out that they're still working on it. Not really complaining because at the end of the day, they are still getting the job done. However, we are getting fooled with the completion date.
Keep the momentum going, but most importantly, keep a crane on the university.
As someone who works in construction he was just being too optimistic, nothing ever gets done in time, they set a planned completion date but it's rarely hit.
Construction is crazy in the area right now. Lots of subcontractors dealing w/ labor shortages.
I’m a huge fan of the brick & mortar progress on campus. Our facilities have been in huge need of upgrade, renovations, and additions. Very proud to see the funds raised being implemented to tie our University into a comprehensive/cohesive campus. I truly hope Dr Rudd and the Board keep the momentum going. We have lot’s of needs. Would be amazing to see 2 projects per calendar year “break ground” for the next 15-20yrs.

As I understand it the ATO House is going to be renovated & rented to Delta Gamma Sorority.

SAE just got shut down for 5 years. Pike has been shut down for a while.
The SAE house looked like crap. It's a good facility, housing corp or whomever owns it needs to do something with it to keep it from falling apart while empty.
ATO house should probably be condemned and get it over with unless they poured a lot of money into it since the late 90s.
They sold SAE house to a developer who is going to build apartments.

That intersection has no plans to be changed anytime soon.
They started construction a few weeks ago.

Not to split hairs but it’s actually Alpha Gamma Delta. They started work several weeks ago and appear to have gutted everything and are rebuilding all but the exterior structure.
I’m curious as to whether or not the university owns the property now and are renting to Alpha Gam or if Alpha Gam now owns it.
This leaves only 5 fraternity houses. Down from 10 or 11 a decade ago. Private dorms/apartment complexes are having a serious impact on Greek life.

If they want to increase the out of town students then they really need to invest or promote Greek life. That is one of the top reasons why people develop such a strong loyalty to a school and live on campus

Do something like Arizona State, where many of the frats are in the same apartment/dorm complex, but I think separate wings. Or do them one better and comingle them all together.

That is certainly true. For several decades one of the big selling points was that joining a fraternity meant a chance to live in a dorm like environment without the university’s oversight. It didn’t matter that the houses were crappy because at the time the alternative was dorms like Richardson Towers.
With dorms like Centennial Place and private facilities like the Nine and Gather, fraternity houses lose a lot of there appeal. There is a reason that SPE and Sigman Chi, two of the larger remaining chapters at Memphis, do well consistently- they have nicer houses. The majority of the closed chapters at Memphis all had crappy, money pit houses.
