I get it, but you can't celebrate the wins against the Big 10 and then be upset we didn't cover against CCSU. CCSU was playing the same role we love watching when we play the Big 10. The fact is, our Offensive and Defensive Lines are not playing well and need to get better. Couple with the fact that I thought CCSU played REALLY well, the result was what it was. It wasn't too long ago that we completely struggled to get ANY wins. I'm not thrilled either, but in the end, it counts in the win column and we are currently the ONLY 3 win team in the Mac right now.

07-coffee3 same old same old. Just admit we didn’t come to play and to be really honest nether did they. And yes I can I want us to go to the best bowl while are just hoping for any bowl even a bowl of corn flakes. This bad win against a bad team in the last few seconds did not help our bowl bid. It hurt it! As far as the bowl selection committee is concerned it was a home loss. 04-chairshot

My take:

As far as bowl selections, good wins are important, bad losses are important, the rest just count as numbers.

E.g., we have 3 wins, 1 of which is a 'good win.' We have no bad losses.

The only 'significant' game is Illinois, because it is a 'good win.'

The wins over Coastal and CCSU were expected as was the loss to KY.

Coastal is 3-1. That gotta count as a nice win.

Regardless, it doesn't really matter at the end of the day. This is the NCAA. It's all about money. The bowls want teams that bring visitors to their towns and good TV ratings for their sponsors. They dont care about good wins and bad losses.

'Nickle,

The way I would score wins is:

Win vs. a run of the mill P5 school (or equivalent) would count TWO points. I win over a top 40 team would be worth THREE points. A top 25 would be FOUR points. A top 10 would be FIVE points.

A win vs. G5 and some stronger FCS would be worth ONE point.

A win vs. lower caliber FCS would be worth say 1/2 point.

And then reverse it.

A LOSS vs. lower caliber FCS would be worth say MINUS 2 points.

A LOSS to a P5 school is 0 (neither a positive or negative) unless a blowout then it is MINUS 1 point.

A LOSS to most G5 teams are MINUS 1.

********
So I would give EMU:

1 point for the win over Coastal Carolina,

0 points for the loss to KY, (a win would have been worth 3 points)

2 points for the win over IL.

1/2 point for a win over CCSU.

This way I can assign weights to each game regardless if it is vs a B1G opponent or CCSU. Each game is worth something regardless of whom the opponent is.

You are right, it is all speculation. As long as they keep winning, it doesn't matter if it's by five points in the last minute or 33 points in a blowout. Good teams find a way to win, even if it is ugly. Win the MAC Championship, and forget about the bowl selection committee.

When the Eagles see Central in two Saturdays, they will be a 3 and 1 team playing its first conference game of the season. I for one won't complain if they pull off another squeaker win! Don't worry about the how, just remember the Y, and you'll understand this team has the potential to be something special.

The only way this affects bowl selection is if we go 6-6. The solution to that is to not do that. I still think this can be a 9 win team - they just have to show up.

I'm not even sure this game hurts.

When it comes to qualifying and promoting a bowl game it is about WINS, not losses or winning a game narrowly..

We have a big win over Illinois. We need a big win over WMU or TOL, too.

ESPN or EMU isn't going to promote by saying we beat XYZ State by 30 points.

What the CCSU game got us is a highlight most of us won't forget for years... In that respect the HIGHLIGHT made the game memorable, not the erratic play.

The score will soon be forgotten.

I agree 100%!

In my opinion, the best EMU football team in the last three years was in 2017, with a record of 5-7. They lost 3 OT games, missed a victory at Army by inches, did not hit the final pass vs Toledo or Kentucky and Roback missed a couple of throws in Mt. Pleasant or that team could conceivably been 12-0.

That team truthfully did not really experience winning a game that they should not, Rutgers was even more horrible than they are now. This team has now "stolen" a game on their own, something that has not happened in the last four years and can now enter the final minutes with a degree of confidence past teams did not have.

We have issues for sure, BUT a win is a win and our record is 3-1! I am smiling.

I agree. I really think they have to go 7-5 this year to secure a bowl selection. That would mean going 4-4 the rest of the season. In my opinion, I see us going 5-3 the rest of the way

CCSU is now 7 and 1, their only loss vs Sexton. Doesn't make this game feel a lot better but its something.

Good post! I did not know but the CCSU team I saw at The Factory looked a whole lot better than our FCS opponent Monmouth last year.

They are ranked #24 and will probably continue climbing.
