Ugly loss for sure. Coastal had size, defense and good shooting, and really could have won by more.
We have 3 games left before CAA play: Home against Winthrop (Dec 17), followed by 2 games in Myrtle Beach Dec 19-20 against non-DI Catawba and UNC.
We're fortunate that there's a lot of bad teams in this league. Us, Hofstra, Charleston, Towson, Elon and Delaware are all outside of the top 200 of the RPI. Otherwise I'd say there's little chance we can finish in the top half.
JMU and Drexel should be the class of the league, as usual. W&M looks good as well. 7-2, and each of the 2 losses for the Tribe were close games against quality competition.

The Lady Hawks face Winthrop today at 11:30
AM. 4,000+ elementary school kids are expected to be in attendance for today’s contest in the Women’s team’s annual tradition.

Awful home loss. Winthrop was 1-6 entering the contest.

This team is much more talented than what I've seen the last two days. For some reason the chemistry is off. And this is a veteran team. One thing that would help turn their slump around is improving their passing. Right now they have to be the worst passing team in the CAA. I'm really thinking it is due to the poor chemistry. This can be fixed.

The Lady Hawks are currently outside of the Top 300 in the RPI. Not good. Charleston and Hofstra are also outside of the Top 300 and Towson is close to it.
We have 2 non-conference games left, both occurring this week in Myrtle Beach. Tomorrow, we face non-DI Catawba at 8 PM. Then, on Friday, we face UNC (8-1) at 7:30.
CAA play begins on January 3rd and 5th with home games against Delaware (3-7) and Drexel (6-4).

Last year we beat Catawba in an exhibition, 79-55. Granted, they went 13-15 last season, but still. We shouldn't be losing to any D-II teams, no matter how good they are.

Lady Hawks don’t put up much of a fight, losing 85 to 45 against UNC. This begs the question is the men’s basketball team better than the women’s team?

Right now, good question. But, she's at least had some success as the woman's coach. So, she gets a longer leash than CB who has not had any

Ahhhh 3-7? That must be why you aren’t sliding in my DMs, bragging about what a great coach Barefoot is.
What you are seeing is the REAL coaching ability of Barefoot. That’s why you are losing to D2 schools.
She cannot coach. She would make a great assistant coach, but head coach she is not.
She won at ODU because she had two superstars (Shae Kelley -who left for Minnesota for her 5th year- and Jennie Simms -came as a WV transfer). Those two carried her program for 5 years. Once they were gone, her inability to coach was obvious.
Good luck in the CAA

I mean, can you blame us? All we wanted was to be competitive here in Women's Basketball. We've historically been a bottom feeder in the CAA for a long time. We've made the WNIT 2x in program history and that's it.
Last year most certainly fit the bill for a competitive season; 18-12 overall, 11-7 in the CAA and we protected our home floor to the tune of 13-1. So naturally we were excited about the direction the program was going. This year has been a massive disappointment but I don't think we're wrong to still think Coach Barefoot is the caliber of HC we needed here.

I don’t blame you. Barefoot’s ODU contract wasn’t renewed for a reason and it had everything to do with wins and losses (and the extracurricular activity in her program)
Barefoot is NOT an X&O coach. She is a great motivator and what not, but will he out coached on a regular basis. That’s why you’re losing to teams you shouldn’t be.
You deserve a HC that can help a team win the games you shouldn’t win. She needs an assistant coach who is an X&O person and then she needs to let that person have a voice.
Until she sets her ego aside, you guys will continue to go south.

You must really have an axe to grind with her. Even in all of our past coaches I’ve disliked, ive never gone on an opposing team’s boards to tip them.
That’s just me though.

RE: 2019-2020 W Basketball Thread
Anyways, back to discussion about the season.
Ending their two week break since their last game, the Lady Hawks open CAA play this weekend by hosting Delaware on Friday at 7 and Drexel on Sunday at 1.
Delaware went 4-7 in non-conference, most recently throttling George Mason at home, 63-44, this past Sunday.
Drexel is one of the class teams in the league, both in recent years and this season. They went 7-5 against the # 48 ranked non-conference SOS in OOC play. It would be very surprising if they finished outside of the top 2 in the league this year. The Dragons open @ Charleston on Friday prior to facing us.
