One of the many QB’s that snubbed us while Carey was coach. That was not our strong point of recruiting.

Might argue that NDSU is a better program than ours. As for developing quarterbacks, Carson Wentz translated his career there into being a top pick in the NFL draft.

Their last three quarterbacks have been Carson Wentz, Easton Stick (winningest QB in Div ! 1 FCS level and backup in San Diego) and Trey Lance (first freshman to win the Walter Payton award as the best player in Div 1 FCS.) NIU may want to steal their quarterback recruiter.

Just a bummer we lost out on him. Clearly he’s doing something right. Carey couldn’t recruit the QB position.

Lance may have decided against coming to NIU because the Huskies had 2 other dual threat’s in Jyran Mitchell and Jiya Wright in the same class.. In addition, NIU had just gotten Rodney Hall the year prior and Childers looked to be locked in starting through 2020. At NDSU he was the only qb in that class and the qb position was open since 4 year starter Easton Stick was leaving. But honestly I can’t blame any kid choosing NDSU over NIU. FCS or not...winning is winning.

Boise St offered him as well, I think he would have chosen Boise St over NIU

Correct. And I think they would be a very well-respected mid-major. They consistently field excellent teams.

We shouldn't look to smaller schools the same way bigger schools look at us and our MAC sister schools.

He's got great size and put up some terrific stats for a freshman.

Well, he is the first player to ever win the Walter Payton award (FBS Player of the Year) as a freshman, so, yes, he is good.

Contend? They’d dominate the MAC. If they make the jump to FBS the MAC is beneath them. Mountain west Would be a great fit.

I dont know about dominate but I think they would certainly be yearly contenders. They played Illinois state in a close game during their playoff run and won by less than a TD. I understand that’s not always the best measuring stick but it’s one we’ve got.
