Abukar chooses Florida
By BRANDON ZIMMERMAN

Florida signee Mohamed Abukar.
An intense, last-minute recruiting battle of SEC rivals ended Thursday as prized basketball recruit Mohamed Abukar chose Florida over Kentucky, sources told The Sun.
Abukar, a former Georgia signee, will make the official announcement today at 5:30 p.m. EDT at Rancho Bernardo High in San Diego where he averaged 30 points and 13 rebounds last season as a senior.
Abukar, a 6-foot-9 wing, committed to Georgia last May and signed in the fall. After former coach Jim Harrick's resignation in March, however, Abukar asked for and was given a release by Georgia, setting off a second recruiting battle which included newcommer Florida.
Abukar joins Lakeland forward Chris Richard, Maryville, Tenn., guard Lee Humphrey and Stanwood, Wash., point guard Ryan Appleby in the Class of 2003.
