Opening Akron betting line
NIU -25 1/2 over Akron. We're not doing well, is Akron THAT bad?
I'll be at the game, hoping for good weather, good turnout, and a Huskie win.

Akron once upon a time had a good coach. New AD wanted to make his mark for his resume and voila.

With all the injuries, suspensions, and coaches learning on the job, I don't see the Huskies beating anybody by 25. Heck, they even have trouble scoring over 25!

RE: Opening Akron betting line
Ridiculous spread but we should be favored because the Huskies have been within a play or two of winning three of the games that we lost this year. Without the injuries and suspensions we would all feel much better about this transition year. I feel much better about our coaching staff than others and I am optimistic about our future. We will learn a lot about our coaches and our players in the coming weeks when we see if they can maintain their motivation and effort in a year where they are increasingly unlikely to get to Detroit.
It is OK to have an occasional down year and I am a bit unusual in that I can watch and enjoy a game like we had against Miami even if we lose.

Yea I think Akron will have to score about negative 3 points for NIU to win by 25.

I wish I could be that sanguine (there's that NIU degree in play!) about it. You're right, but I expect at least a winning season ,we may not even have that this year.
I expected better from the team this year, let's hope the players and coaches get their act together and play some Huskie football like we've become accustomed to.
Who would have thought Balls Tate would be at the top of the west, undefeated in MAC play?

Does anyone know the status of Bowers? I like the kid and hope he is able to get back on the field soon

From the looks of that hit I would expect Bowers to sit out the Akron game, which may be the only "gimme" on our schedule.
I happened to like Childers, but wish that his passing accuracy would improve.
He extends drives and gets a lot of first downs with his legs. He'll do fine against Akron.

I think his first start was against a cupcake like Akron. I fear a false sense of comparison if he plays against Akron and has a good game. Bowers gets Utah and Nebraska and Childers steps into the buttercups

Childers played lights out against Buffalo in the MACC. I know they whole team, including Smith, buckled down for that win.
Childers showed leadership in that game, like Harnish did in the 2011 MACC comeback against Ohio.
He's shown that he's capable, now he needs to be consistent.

Childers is not an accurate passer. Can he have a good game or two? Sure, but I hope he runs whenever he sees a lane. It's a much higher percentage play than if he throws...
