Ron Higgins who wrote for the Commercial Appeal in many capacities & won nine Tennessee Sportswriter of the Year awards left Memphis to write on LSU for NOLA.com.

He got his start when he was 8, the sports editor of the Advocate asked him if he could write a few paragraphs on some local baseball games when the results and box scores were brought to the paper.

He eventually ended up in Memphis writing for the Commercial Appeal.

He's since left NOLA & moved to Jackson MS to become the Sports Editor & Columnist of the Clarion Ledger.

Times have changed & Newspapers have changed.

Ron was in a long line of great sportswriters & beat writers for the Memphis Commercial Appeal/Press Scimitar Newspapers.

I miss those times when the first thing you did even before having your first cup of coffee was walk out to the curb of your house & pick up the morning edition of the Commercial Appeal.

Or when I would attend Memphis State Football games starting as a youngster at Liberty Bowl Stadium & the Press Scimitar would print a special edition with a front/back page that slipped around the previous days paper since it was only in print Monday-Friday.

It would have both Home & Away Teams rosters & other pertinent info & would sell them to fans as they walked into the game.

Ahh ........... time goes on

Cletus, I did the same thing.
Also, worked for the publ. company throwing C A and Scim. routes during paper boy vacas and when no paper boy avail.
We sold those rosters usually just down from Binswanger glass. Dear Abbey sold a few extra to the ladies.

Please keep your stupid, ignorant projectionist comments to yourself or put them in the designated sub where other...um, people like yourself, can read them.

That beat down was so bad I halfway expected to see Dewayne Pride to show up and investigate what happened.
