RE: Game Week/DAY: @TOL
I was at the game yesterday in the pouring down rain! What a performance from Glass, Vann, Jackson, Drummond, and Oakes! They gave it there all...…..The dropped pass killed us, the fumble from Latu did as well! The defense not trying to be negative against these young men(they've parents), but I can't say 1 thing positive! They gave up a 90 yard play, They gave up a 3rd and 24, They allowed almost FOUR HUNDRED yards rushing, etc.....Losing MAXX CROSBY is the number one reason we looked so good last year, every play he put pressure on the other teams QB, got doubled teamed, etc......Which allowed other players to simply look better! We've no one even in the same league on this team period! Creighton when it was tied 31-31, after we recovered the fumble at the Toledo 23, went conservative once again, and put the game in a very average kickers hands who I believe was 3-8 from 30-39 yards, and he should've realized that! This game is beyond a devastating loss on so many levels! Not making a bowl game, recruiting against Toledo, A winning record, beating Toledo 2 years in a row, etc...….How many times are we going to say we lost close, FG missed, etc...….If Creighton wants to really be taken seriously, you've to beat the blue bloods of the MAC, no excuses, the 21 point comeback doesn't mean a thing in the record books, for recruiting, winning the MAC etc...….CONSERVATIVE Creighton has to change! in the last 3 seasons we've lost TEN games we could've won, and that's all that matters period! 4-0 the rest of the year, or I don't see us making a bowl game!

We are who we are. 6-7 wins just might be the ceiling here unless we fluke into our own PJ Fleck somehow.

Better than 1-11 or 2-12, but frustrating nonetheless.

It really all goes back to talent and recruiting. Until Creighton & Co. figure out how to get the program into the upper quarter of recruiting in the MAC, the talent dictates 5-7 wins. Unless you want to switch to an Army/Navy offense, talent always wins out at the end of the day. Been saying this since Day 1. The new facilities will help some, but it's really about the staff just getting out there and making it happen. Some are better at it than others. Apparently we are lacking in that area. Maybe this class can be the start of changing that reality.

TBD

That is indeed the 800 lb. gorilla in our discussion room. We can whine ad nauseam about Creighton's safe strategies and the coordinators deficiencies but recruiting is the anchor dragging this team to 5-7 wins each season. We seldom match the foot speed of our opponents, in fact I felt CSSU a FCS team, was superior to us in that area. I am, however, somewhat surprised that we do not have a strength and conditioning coach as many programs do.

I wish I had the answer but this a huge mountain to climb.

We are next door to a blueblood P5 program that sucks up all the area media attention and local donor money. I noticed the Yark Auto group plastered all over the presser backdrop. Suffice to say that Yark is dropping a whole lot more $ to Toledo than Cueter is to EMU. Toledo also has a local paper that covers it program extensively. Other than Kent St and Buffalo, most MAC programs are the only game in town with respect to media coverage and game attendance options.

Creighton also plays it safe with respect to the proper deportment of his athletes. He does not seem to pursue those "project" guys like Kareem Hunt, Corey Davis or Antonio Brown as other MAC programs do. Rob Murphy, on the other hand, snagged Ray Lee and James Thompson but gave them too long a leash at EMU, producing little real team results while here. By contrast Creighton ran Kilby and Aristilde off and I admire him for that.

Creighton seems skilled at marketing as witnessed by the grey field, The Factory and breaking down The Wall prior to games. Perhaps he could focus more on bringing the horses to EMU?

Recruiting is difficult at EMU for several reasons. Particularly if you tend to avoid “character projects” as Creighton does.

So, if you don’t have great recruiting, how do you compete? Through creative, out of the box schematics, and/or through player development. Creighton excels at neither.

He seems to be a great administrator in that he is organized, professional, and a positive influence on the character development of his players. He’s a good marketing promoter. But that’s it, and his limitations have a ceiling unless/until he blossoms in other areas.

I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying. CC has taken us to a .500 caliber program and now we want to make the next step. He has built culture and excitement and done it the right way and that is awesome to see when so many take short cuts. It's the reason I follow this program.

In my opinion....he will not take 'fliers' on kids who don't fit the mold and I respect him for that. Taking fliers on kids who are trouble goes against everything he coaches against and he won't do it. That being said.....the only way to get true Difference Makers is to get them through the transfer portal. 4 stars are not coming to EMU out of high school as much as I would love to see it. You have to find them through schools with coaching changes and kids looking to get some playing time in their 5th yr. I know a lot has been said about Weigers but he filled a major hole. We NEED some difference makers on the Defensive side badly.

Sidenote....I will be posting another thread in a couple weeks as the season winds down but let's not get down on what is coming back next year. I thought this years team would win 7 or so which is still in site to get to a bowl but next year's team with what they have coming back (return almost all OL, Preston, Beydoun, Quiann, Drummond, Haney, McGee, Dooley, Parker, Banham, etc.) I think we look really good, if not better than we did coming into this year.

I think CC is Bill Snyder and we're the MAC version of K-State. I think CC does a good job finding under recruited guys. How mayn offers did maxx have? or mcgill? shoot - beydoun just showed up one day. the recruiting rankings are less accurate for G5 schools - so i'm not going to get worked up about those.

buried under the ending of the game by the way? the offense looked good - NOT GREAT - for two games in a row

Guys he is 0-7 in overtime games. He plays it far too safe. He is far too concerned with running a clean program than in recruiting great athletes.

Thanks Heather, you hired a great coach!

I wasnt impressed when Creighton was first hired. He has changed the complete culture of the football program in a positive way on and off the field. Thats no small feat and one all of us should appreciate.

And quite honestly most of us who've been following E Michigan football for a quarter of a century, didn't think it was possible! CC has done the almost the impossible, changed the worst rated D1 football program in America to respectability! We've a chance to go to a 3rd bowl game in 4 years! Did anyone think that was possible 10 years ago? And, he graduates his players as well!!!!!!

And, he graduates his players as well!!!!!!

having a .500 level basketball team every year and having a .500 football team every year are WAY the hell different and if CC just alternates between 7-5 and 5-7 for the next ten years then honestly - id be fine with that.

Lets say we finish with wins against akron and NIU and losses to buffalo and kent state.

6-6. not good not bad. were alright.

What do you mean he ran players off?
