Exclamation Liberty will go to a bowl this year!
Liberty is 6-3 after their latest win over Maine. Games remaining:
0-8 New Mexico St
3-4 BYU
@Virginia

Liberty should be at least 7-5 at seasons end.
They will bring a huge crowd to their first bowl game.
Does Liberty go to a bowl this year?

Yes, and they will develop into a force whether people like it or not.

Remember, my children, Mr. esayem predicted this long, long ago.

Most FCS schools would go 6-6 or better with that Schedule

Oh it’s a terrible schedule, but it’d be pretty remarkable if they went to a bowl in their 2nd year of FBS.

Not saying that they won’t go to a bowl, but remember only one FCS game can count towards your bowl eligibility. Because they played two FCS games they will need 7 wins total to get to a bowl this year.

Assuming we met the bowl quota which often doesn't happen.

Yes. At this point it's likely that Liberty will go to a bowl, but by no means certain, so they shouldn't count their bowls before they hatch.

How different from when 9-2 UCF didn't get a bowl thanks to the hurricane makeup upset of Miami over a UCLA team that was going to play for the national championship.

Liberty shouldn’t pound their chests too loudly quite yet. Most anyone could win 7 games when the schedule includes:

2 FCS
NMSU x2
UNM
UMass
Buffalo

Congrats to Liberty if they do make a bowl. However, two of their five wins are against FCS schools (Hampton and Maine). Schools are only allowed one of these to count toward the required six wins to become bowl eligible, so they need two more wins. That said, they should have an excellent chance against UMass and NMSU.

I’d take LU over Rutgers, as well. Flames have a good shot to be 8-4 when the bowl selections are decided.

At this point, we have to say that "congratulations" to Liberty is premature. They do have to win two more games, and even if they do, being "eligible" is not necessarily the same as playing in an actual bowl game.

IIRC, Liberty's only bowl tie-in this year is with the Cure Bowl, and that is provisional, it requires that either the Sun Belt or AAC be unable to fill their slots. They could get in elsewhere if other bowls are also searching for teams at the end, but again, not a certainty.

Last year, four bowl-eligible teams did not play in bowls, so that can happen.

I know Liberty can't count both FCS games, but can they count both NMSU games toward bowl eligibility?

Only one FCS victory counts toward bowl eligibility. Both games against NMSU can count.

Liberty is going to be a legit program soon. VT has a tiger cub growing up in their back yard and they better be careful.

I personally think VT is very aware of what is brewing. VT is already going after at least one current LU commit.

Let's wait until they play a legit schedule first.

They struggled with 2-win #121 New Mexico, 0-win #126 NMSU, and were not competitive with # 80 Syracuse and #43 ULL.

Only wins more than one score were against #107 Buffalo and two mediocre FCS teams

Liberty will get selected by a bowl if they are eligible, even ahead of other teams. They will bring crowds and excitement that a 6-6 team who was in the bottom half of their league just won't. There is a lot to be said for a first timer at a new level, excitement wise.
