Oh yeah, Abraham is an average QB on an average team with an average Corch, so what do we expect. Even if we go 9-3, we will be he worst 9-3 football team in 'murica (as opposed to mighty Rice being the BEST 0-8 team in 'murica 03-yawn)

and so it goes mein friends...

I would be okay with going 9-3 regular season.

RE: Hopson’s gotta go.
I noticed Hopson had a great big smile on his face when he met Lane Kiffin after the game. Doesn't seem like he was too upset with the loss.

I hate to say it, but I think we all know that Jay Hopson isn't going to be fired...after all he's going to finish the year with a winning record. Since the Ellis Johnson fiasco, I don't see Southern Miss with it's financial situation ever paying off someone to not coach. Also, he only has one year left on his contract. What we all need to hope is that our current AD is in touch with reality and doesn't simply give Hopson a raise and extension because he finished 2019 with a "winning season." The troubling aspect is that next season is set up perfectly to give Hopson an inflated creampuff winn-loss record. Aside from Auburn, our OOC games consists of Alcorn State, Liberty, and S. Alabama. Even if he can only win five conference games like this season, that will still give him 8 wins. Anything more than that is gravy- and will give the false illusion that he's a great coach. It's a sad situation.

RE: Hopson’s gotta go.
We’re basically redoing the late Bower era. Incapable of beating good teams, but with enough bad ones on the schedule to hold at +/- 7 wins every year until the slow slide finally results in the bad teams being able to beat us, too.

It sucked the first time. I honestly don’t know to what extent I’m hanging around for the second.

It definitely reminds me of the Bower era, when we were suppose to be content with 7-5 and 8-4 records. One thing I will say, is that at least Bower won against better conference competition, and could usually score victories against teams like Illinois, Oklahoma State, NC State, etc. But for every victory against a team like that, there was always 2 or 3 conference games lost that shouldn't have been. Hopson is losing to worse conference competition, and aside from his fluke win over Kentucky I don't think anyone sees him winning in the future against any power conference teams.

I was thrilled when Bower was let go and Fedora was hired. The energy was exciting, recruiting was exciting, and while not perfect the games were exciting. I remember that as good as his offense was, his defenses left a lot to be desired. I can't recall the last time I felt the excitement and energy of the C-USA championship game against Houston.

Actually, that wouldn't surprise me at all. They're bowl eligible with the same record we have. It seems like these new programs with no history are able to recruit coaching staff and players that can kick our ass. Western Kentucky owns us. Liberty might do the same thing.

RE: Hopson’s gotta go.
Someone on the Twitter machine compiled Hopson's record vs. FBS teams who finished the respective season .500 or better (I have not independently validated):

'16: 3-4
'17: 3-4
'18: 2-4
'19: 1-5

9-17, 35% rounded up. He’s proven he can’t be expected to beat decent teams.

I remember presenting this exact same case against Bower +/- 15 years ago. The deja vu is strong with this one.

Wow! That tells a lot about the state of the football program. I have little doubt it's accurate and definitely is for this year: 1 win against UAB, 5 losses to Alabama, MSU, LaTech, WKU, and FAU. Alabama is understandable, but we should be able to go at least 2-2 against the other four.

Maybe he's hoping Lane goes to Arky and takes him for DC.

RE: Hopson’s gotta go.
Dumb me bought season tickets again this year. Only had the motivation to make 2 games. Left early both times. I can take the money I pay next year to Football and just buy a new PS5 or buy the boys some new lacrosse equipment and get some enjoyment out of the purchase. I've just started to accept that we are happy with mediocrity again. People keep going on about the 500k Hopson made. The man named his salary to show how much he wanted the job. That should tell you about his self concept of how good of a coach he is (has to offer his services at a discount to get the job). He doesn't want to go anywhere else and to me that is the biggest red flag out there. I want a coach who wants to be gone in 4 years tops (if he wants to be gone in 2 or 3 all the better) take the extra money we make from increased attendance and get another coach who cant wait to get the hell out of Hattiesburg. Eventually after 20 years or so we might be a Boise again. Its going to take time and patience and a will to go Straight TO THE TOP but that has to be more than a gimmicky commercial.
