Tarleton athletic fee passes
Tarleton stated one of the items needed for move to WAC was an athletic fee increase.

That hurdle has been cleared. Tarleton students voted today to increase athletic fee to $36/hour

Big win for the WAC, and just in time.

Hello Dixie State and Tarleton State, good-bye CSUB and UMKC and probably Chicago State.

With the WAC having eight members in a more compact footprint including two in Texas, it will be interesting to see if any more Lone Star Conference schools become interested in following Tarleton’s lead.

I would say to West Texas A&M, you’re up next. Your 5,800 seat basketball arena is D-I caliber, and that shiny new $44 million expandable 8,500 seat on-campus football stadium you just opened sure looks amenable to FCS level competition.

I agree that WT would be another likely candidate.

In the vein of staying on topic, WT (Amarillo) and TAMU-Commerce (just east of Dallas) both have similar athletic fees north of $32 per credit hour.

They have smaller student populations but have a funding mechanism in place

Not that this means much but TAMU-Commerce has stepped up their mens basketball recruiting going after D1 caliber players over the last 18 months or so. Also not trying to get off topic but it is just an interesting situation to keep an eye on.

Is "not trying to get off topic" the new "with all due respect"? Just because you say it doesn't give you a pass to then say whatever you want. Get you life together, L87!

I really hate that Bako is leaving, but oh well. Happy to see Dixie and Tarleton in the league

Yeah losing Bake stinks but the WAC has done a nice job of getting Dixie and TSU.

So are there any other hurdles for Tarleton to pass or is it all but a done deal now?

It’s a done deal as they mention the WAC by name and their current conference said they gave notice.

Officially, Board of Regents have to bless the fee increase and authorize the WAC bid.

However it should be slam dunk. The AD and president talked to the student body like it was a done deal. Tarleton will be in the WAC next year

Former Missouri Valley Conference member West Texas A&M (was West Texas State in MVC) would be a great addition to the WAC

In the other thread, AD at Tarleton said there are others in D2 that are ready to make the jump including Lone Star Conference. The article covered the fees and the blessings.
