That made me chuckle too. It's like he thought to himself:

"One coach is revered by his schools fans almost to the point of demagoguery; the other coach is so loathed by his schools fans that they are actively rooting for his team to get blown out so as to increase the chances of his getting fired. Tough call as to who is better, I'll just call it even."
