I don't think we have seen UConn sign a single team for the 2020 football schedule since the announcement.

Maybe they have a bunch of FCS games scheduled and they are just waiting to release the schedule after the season ends to not distract the current players.

Maybe the program just doesn't plan on playing a full 12 game schedule in this transition period.

Worst case scenario, they are closing the football program all together and they will announce in December.

Discuss. Speculate. Laugh.

I'd venture a guess if they had a bunch of FCS games scheduled- you would see a mass exodus of players with immediate eligibility for the players....

I voted the 3 on the schedule already
The only other thing possible is to work with the 4 or 5 MWC schools like Colorado St, UNLV, Nevada, Fresno etc that have a 13th game available. But that would mean traveling from New England to the West Coast.

If UConn only plays the 4 games they have scheduled for the entire 2020 season...can the entire team redshirt?

That's an interesting loophole they could exploit, but I doubt the UConn front office wants all that travel cost. The only reason UConn would schedule 11 FBS games is if they want to compete for bowl eligibility. But they don't have an indy bowl agreement. In all aspects 2020 is a lame duck season.

They could conceivably only play their starters for 4 games in 2020, rest them the remainder of the season, and then essentially field a JV team against FCS competition.

5 games, they'll find two more FBS games some how. Then they'll go on the road for two FCS games including one at Yale. Then four home games against FCS teams.

I assumed that was going to happen when the first announcement came out but they seem to have come out relatively unscathed.

If you're a UConn player, where do you go? Transfer to the MAC... maybe Sunbelt team...

when the first announcement came out it was really too late for this season.....

I'd guess you'd see a few guys go better than you think.

RE: How many games does UConn play against FBS opponents in the 2020 football season?
I just don't see how UConn football is ever going to recover from this. They are going to be very lucky to even win two games this season. And it's not like UConn or UMass have shown the ability to put win consistently.

Now they will be a team with horrible recruiting, little TV exposure, and nothing to play for. No bowl is going to be jumping in joy to have UConn if they ever put together a 6-6 season again. They will have no access to a NY6 bowl. This is just simply a mess the are getting themselves into.

I just don't get it.

The glory days of the Big East aren't coming back.

UAB literally shut the program down for two years and won 11 games their second year back.

I get there is a whole different CFB landscape in Alabama but I don't think UConn playing half a schedule in 2020 and 3/4 of one in 2021 is a death sentence as long as they have the right coach (which is dubious at best right now).

The last I checked there are a **** load of guys that want to play FBS football and scholarships are still a full ride.

I think they work a deal with Syracuse and Liberty. UConn takes Liberty's body bag game @ Syracuse on 10/17, hosts Liberty on 10/31 and plays @ Liberty on 11/14, replacing Western Carolina.
They'll be short an FBS home game, and short a couple of FBS games overall to have a compliant schedule. Fill in some FCS home games, play 11 or 10 or 9, I don't know.

I wonder how much collaboration the UConn AD has had with the ADs at UMass, Liberty, NMSU, and Army. You’d think they might be able to come to some sort of agreement for a scheduling alliance among them, albeit Army might only be partially committed since they usually have less trouble filling a calendar.

When UAB closed, the donors sent a ton of money for a revival. They invested heavily in the program and recruiting.

I just don’t see that happening with UConn.

Maybe they will play an AAC conference schedule, looks like that is what they are planning.
