Amateur sports is pretty much dead...
IMHO - ESPN and all it's money poured into college sports has official killed it. Did all the Presidents of all the NCAA universities really think they could make billions of dollars and not have the politicians jump in the middle?

I'm not saying that with all the billions to be had, that not letting the players in on the action is right.

I'm simply saying that everyone thought ESPN was the most wonderful thing to ever happen for college sports, but in my humble opinion it has ended up destroying what I loved about college sports. There was a time when it wasn't all about money - it was about the love of the game. Now it's just another big business.

We're coming for you

I’m kinda looking forward to this. Let the ones chasing money start having above-board payrolls to meet and taxes to pay. I don’t expect those schools’ fan bases to vanish, but it’ll be interesting to see what the long-term reaction will be when it becomes another professional league.

Meanwhile, the rest of us can just go back to playing college sports as it was originally intended and stop dealing with all this nonsense.

HP, at this point, I have to agree. I guess we all knew it would eventually come to this. Might as well just enjoy it.

The BCS is what killed college football, which was its purpose.

Correct and for some reason many did
Not see it coming.

It was sold as a way to get a ‘true national championship ‘
That was a lie.

Quote:But here are [some of] the guidelines the NCAA says any changes to name and image rights rules should follow.

-Ensure rules are transparent, focused and enforceable and facilitate fair and balanced competition.

-Make clear that compensation for athletics performance or participation is impermissible.

-Protect the recruiting environment and prohibit inducements to select, remain at, or transfer to a specific institution.

Yeah, good luck with that, NCAA, when all the car dealerships and clothing stores in various member locales start bidding on talent via endorsement deals. Granted, that’s just over-the-table money as opposed to the under-the-table money you morons have let slide for decades, but...yeah, good luck with that.

These kids that are seeing dollar signs don't realuze the unintended consequences of getting this money. 1. Tax liability. 2. No more pell grants. 3. Mom may not qualify to claim son anymore. Just to name a few. The kids will end up being the ones that suffer in the long run. Hell. They go crazy when they get paid as grown men. It will be a train wreck. I see the top 7 bball recruuts being Fedex spokesmen every year.

Depending on what you’re getting from these licensing agreements, you might make far more than those things.

Yep. I look forward to recruits deciding where to sign based upon which school can sell the most jerseys with their name on it.

This is going to be a gargantuan cluster f***. Grab some popcorn and settle in.

in a handful of years, the NCAA will be as relevant as KMart and Freds....or to go back further in time, Woolco and Howards....

Possibly the worst part of all this is the effect it’ll have on high school & rec leagues. Some parents are going bat-sh*t crazy chasing athletic scholarships as it is. Just wait until all this licensing & endorsement money is up for grabs.

“Yeah, my 5’6”, 150-pound son could be pulling in 6 figures at Georgia next year if his coach wasn’t such an idiot. We’re moving so he can play his senior year at Wonkatonkwa Central.”

A simple question. What happened to the Student part of Student-athlete? They are supposed to be getting an education, not to be celebrities. They should have created a minor league system like baseball. Why didn't they do that in the beginning?

they've been arguing that aspect all morning on DP....

it doesn't matter until it comes to football or hoops...

then it becomes, protect the 'invest' at all costs....

even the dick brain facist that heads the ncaa has already reversed course b/c he now fully understands how this plays out....what a fk'n lard arse in the skull cap he is...

you sheeple have been living a cave believing all this realignment bs since '11....

it was nothing but a precursor to the inevitable....and now the ncaa shite-4-brains are beginning to 'see'....

lmmfao....

The real question now is how early will these kids start getting paid for their "likeness"? 7th,8th,9th grade? There are no limits now. How soon will we see High School jerseys being sold? Pandora's box didn't just open. It exploded.
