It won't be the most fun game to watch, but I think Rice will sustain some very long drives with their most successful steady diet of middle rushes that it will be over in under 3 hours.

I'll take the OVER on that! Rice-Army, with just 22 pass attempts combined, barely made it under the 3-hour mark, at 2:57. Army-UTSA combined for 35 pass attempts -- 2 by Army, 33 by UTSA -- and lasted 3:08. I see a similar number of pass attempts in the Rice-UTSA game, with the added "bonus" (albeit perhaps not for fans of entertaining football) that at 97th/130 and 109th/130, respectively, in completion percentage, lots of those UTSA and Rice passes will wobble futilely to the turf, resulting in clock stoppages and more elapsed game time.

Good info, but it raises two questions:

1. Does anyone reputable take action on game length?
2. Do you have any data on how the broadcast network affects game length? Anecdotal, but I always feel like CBS Sports stuffs in more ads than ESPN3.

Both Army games were on CBS Sports Network. Those commercials tend to stretch things out, versus what you get on ESPN3. Even with a bunch of expected incomplete passes, this one feels like it would be under 3 hours. But you make some good points. It would be an interesting prop, if it were actually offered.

During the game Rice will miss yet another extra point but will win the game when San Antonio running back Sincere McCormick (yes...that's really his name) breaks off a long run in the 4th quarter but inexplicably stops short of the goal line when he realizes that the end zone is actually a picture of a goal post and turf painted onto the side of a mountain. The Owls are further able to help their cause by using an industrial size ACME magnet they use to slow down the Roadrunners progress on the field during their last possession, which allows Rice to gang tackle the runner as the clock runs out short of the pay dirt. Admit it, you missed my predictions for the last two games!

If you had predicted exactly what was going to happen in the LaTech game, it would have ranked as one of your wackier ones.

I imagine a time-of-game prop is only offered for the Super Bowl and games of similar magnitude. Give it time though (pun intended) as we are entering a glorious age where sports betting is becoming ubiquitously legal and surely the forces of competition and good old American ingenuity will combine to produce an explosion of gambling options!

There often is a prop on whether a game will go to OT. God help us if these two offensive lightweights end up tied. 25 yards is too much to ask of either team. Thank goodness for the new rule that teams alternate running two-point conversion plays starting in the 5th OT now.

And excellent points on the slimmed-down commercial interruptions on an internet broadcast! Western Kentucky-Army had 42 combined pass attempts last week but the game was on Stadium rather than CBSSN and only lasted 2:48. WKU-Old Dominion on ESPN+ the week before that went 2:57 despite 57 combined pass attempts. So you'd probably set the O/U for our game somewhere just a bit under 3:00 actually. Which is good, because a game between two of the worst teams in the country really shouldn't take up more of anyone's time than absolutely necessary.

A Rice loss should have Bloom returning from San Antonio with the locks to his office changed.

On another issue concerning an injury-Any new news concerning Juma Otoviano! Will he return this year at all? Maybe play in 4 games this year so that he can take a redshirt? He did so well in the Old Dominion game last year. It would be interesting to see if he could add a new twirl to the offense!

Yep. For the players, I hope they can put together a win...but in the event the Owls lose, Bloom's future needs to be given a close look. Last year he successfully handed UTEP their first win after a 22 game losing streak.

Congrats to Bloom's cast offs-
Abercrumbia- SMU 6-0 Bowl Eligible
Tyner- TT 3-3 3 wins away from bowl (plays Iowa St tomorrow)
Justin Bikham- Iowa St. 4-2 2 wins away from bowl (plays TT tomorrow)
Rowe Wilkins- ASU 5-1 1 win away from bow eligible

Congrats to these guys on getting Rice degrees and finding some joy in the game of football again this season.

Only one of those was a “castoff.” He’s 1-8 passing for 2 yards and has 1 rush for 6 yards on the season. Not sure how heavily his 8 total yards have factored into those 3 TT wins, but whatever fits your narrative dude.

Haters going to hate of course when your teams sucks. For the record they left... because of Bloom's request or because of Bloom's actions that is a fact and you all can dispute it all you want. They are all 4 too classy to ever have anything to say negative about the program. As for my narrative you jackwagon...1-8 and 6 yards rushing nothing to brag about. I'll say this for Tyner. He put up with a ton of BS with the horrific offensive minded coaches at Rice to hold his head high and be asked to come to Tech and win the backup job. Hate on the kid all you jerks want but i would love to see the list of college athletes that have started at 2 different D1 programs at QB and pitched for a D1 possibly two D1 successful baseball programs. His stats aren't the best but obviously there is some athletic ability there that oh I don't know maybe 3 D1(hate to admit Bloom is a D1 HC) head football coaches saw and two and possibly 3 D1 baseball coaches saw. Like always the majority of this board can't let a positive be a positive. Sure I put a negative backhanded comment on the positive thing I was trying to say so let me do it again and maybe if anyone on here gives a rats ass about the graduates and players of the university we won't see any negative replies.

Congratulations on former Rice Owls this season. Abercrumbia, Wilkins, Tyner, and Bikham are having great success with their teams this season. All four have a chance to end their careers in bowl games.

Great experience for those guys. Should be a great game. Outside possibility they could be facing one another as one is a QB and the other a DB. Bikham's sitting #2 SS and Tyner #2 QB.
