It's amazing what can be accomplished when put your faith and life in God's hands. Prayers for a successful procedure and healing. Looking forward to you being back at The Rock soon.

Just wanted to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I went into the hospital today and already completed my first round of chemo. It's gonna be a long month. It's a good thing I've got the rest of the season to watch more football!

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31

(10-14-2019 10:36 AM)FTE_rawr Wrote:  Hey y'all,

I'll keep this to the point as much as possible, but sorry if I ramble.

Back before my wife and I got married in 2016, we made the decision that we were going to go back and finish school. We decided on App State, due to its closeness to our families (and partially our love for the mountains/high country). We made the move, and fell in love with Boone and it's culture immediately. App State became our home.

Move forward into our second semester on campus, and I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at the age of 26. We were devistated.

The College of Business at App immediately understood my plight. I told them I wanted to do everything I could to finish school, and they worked with me. They gave me online classes galore, with special understanding for my condition, and even allowed me to take a "seated" class from the hospital.

We got the cancer into remission, and my wife and I moved back to Boone. As most people would do in the case of a near death experiance, I made a lot of life changes. I worked on maintaining a 3.5 GPA (I ended close, but not quite there), started powerlifting, and lost 100 pounds.

In March of this year, 2 months before graduation, my AML returned. The College of Business once again did what they had to, not just to insure that I could complete my classes, but that I could walk the stage in May as well.

I did.

App State football is my connection to my alma mater, like many others on here, and is one of the few things that can truly make me happy while we continue this fight. I love this team. I may not agree with the coaching decisions, play calls, what have you: but I feel the Mountaineer spirit in my blood every time we hear Hi Hi Yikas.

I really enjoy being on this board with you all. The banter is always fun, and I truly enjoy watching the SBC perform well as a whole (yes, this includes the birds from Stinksboro).

Finally, my request. In a few weeks I will be having a stem cell transplant to hopefully kill this thing off for good. It is a fairly risky procedure, and I will be under close watch for signs of rejection for the next two years. The transplant itself involves use of VERY strong chemotherapy and full body radiation.

I'm just asking for prayers. If you don't believe in praying, your thoughts and well wishes are appreciated as well. I'm hopefully reaching the end of this long fight, and I need all the help I can get in order to get there.

Sorry about the offtopicness mods

I had a friend to survive the same experience and has been doing super for twenty five years now. I pray you have similar results and believe you will. May you and your wife have peace and a future of great health.

Not sure how I missed this thread.

You've got my prayers and totally understand the financial strain, I hit my out-of-pocket limit this year with my cancer treatment, had to shell out $2200 cash on the barrel head just get my first CAT scan and biopsy.

Chemo SUCKS, it will knock you own your butt.

I was luckily caught early and just got my second clear scan today but even with treatment ending in June my sleep remains screwed up, stay tired most of the time and still don't like the taste of coffee or chocolate (yeah! side effects!!).

You probably aren't going to feel the way people expect you to feel on any given day. The days they think you ought to be cheerful you may be sick or tired or tired of being sick or just the whole weight of it all may be sitting on you. The days others think you ought to be glum you may find something to be so ridiculous that it makes you smile the rest of the day and you trudge merrily along because the option of feeling like crap and giving up ain't really an option.

Your feelings are yours don't be embarrassed.

Don't be afraid to say I'm too tired or I don't feel like it when that's the case and if you get pissed and want to tough your way through something just to prove you can, that's fine too.

There's an active group on reddit r/cancer and it's helpful to just go ahead blurt out whatever is on your mind that you don't want to share with the people around you.

Best to you.

My cancer was different and I had radiation and cistplatin chemo so I doubt I can offer any insight on your treatment but if you just want to vent or ramble drop me a PM.
