RE: WAC Commits 2020-21
(02-12-2020 02:37 PM)FINALFOUR1970SWEETSIXTEEN1992 Wrote:  NMSU adding some size at the guard position.

With the return of 6'4, 200-lbs, Clayton Henry and the additions of JUCO 6'5, 190-lbs, Jason King and D1 transfer 6'6 215-lbs Marcus Watson NMSU should be much more physically imposing on the perimeter. Our three point shooting "might" be in question but NMSU should be even tougher defensively next season.

Although... Henry, Rice, Gilyard and hopefully Williams will bring the three point shot from the guard position next year. Not to mention McCants and Likayi who are big men who can shoot it from behind the arc as well.

With next season's team, Jans will bring the "physical intimidation" our team has been lacking since he shrunk our line up after Menzies teams. WAC fans respect what Jans has done. He has proven to be an exceptional coach. Even with smaller, quicker line ups. However, since Menzies left and our teams have gotten "smaller" in stature, the WAC fans of other schools haven't really seen NMSU as a physically imposing any longer. They use to be in awe of NMSU size and athleticism; like when NMSU rolled into town with players such as Sim Bhullar (7'5, 360), Tanveer Bhullar (7'2, 335), Chili Nephawe (6'10, 268), Renaldo Dixon (6'10, 215), Pascal Siakam (6'9, 230), Bandja Sy (6'8, 215), Remi Barry (6'8, 225), and Tyrone Watson (6'5, 225). These days, Coach Jans sideline coaching intimates the fans or other WAC programs more than our actual Aggie players. I suspect next season, that will change. Our players will be as intimidating as our coach (god willing Jans remains our coach for the foreseeable future).

He could be eligible right away since he never played for Oklahoma State. He might be able to get a waiver.

RE: WAC Commits 2020-21
According to verbal commits, GCU picks up a commitment from Modestas Kancleris, a 6'8, 190-lbs, freshman-to-be, forward out of Lithuania.

A lot of International flavor entering the WAC next season...

Cal Baptist - Suraj Gahir from Canada, Fredelin De La Cruz from Dominican Republic

Grand Canyon - Modestas Kancleris from Lithuania

New Mexico State - Mayan Kiir from South Sudan

Seattle University - Vasja Pandza from Slovenia, Nathan Robinson from United Kingdom, Kobe Williamson from Australia, Leonardo Da Campo from Italy

UT Rio Grande Valley - Malik Lawrence-Anderson from Jamaica

Stone to GCU

Wow. His other school of interest was Auburn. Bruce Pearl rarely loses a recruit he really wants. He’s doing at Auburn what he did at Tennessee.

Let’s hope he’s a good add. Coming from a Christian school in Kansas, he will likely enjoy the campus culture with chapel, praise concerts, etc. it was apparently a plus for Finke. But maybe not enough to pass up Wright State... cause you know what a happening place Dayton Ohio is. Although the Flyers had a magical season.

Yeah. I doubt this kid had a real offer from Auburn. No way he chooses GCU over Auburn or any of those P5 schools. Verbal Commits list looks more realistic of the schools that were recruiting him.

Yeah. Faulty 24/7 sports board info is the more likely culprit.

Just a reminder Pistol. CSUB and UMKC are goners July 1st. I know this WAC fan doesn't care who commited to CSUB or UMKC. Bascially its irrelevant.

I am leaving CSUB's and UMKC's recruiting in my post as a courtesy until July 1st. But I am fully aware it means nothing to the WAC now.

I wondering how many of Majerle's recruits Bryce Drew will try to keep in the fold? Or, will Drew decide to look for "better" prospects that fit his system?

Does anyone think Dixie State is going to be any good next year? Not being facetious. A legit question. Also instead of going for a new coach they stayed with their D2 coach, much like CBU, unlike GCU and Tarleton State.

In my opinion the big question is can Jon Judkins recruit at a high enough level to make Dixie State competitive. CBU's Rick Croy made to transition from D2 recruiting to D1 recruiting fairly easily. And Tarleton State went out and hired a proven D1 recruiter in Billy Gillispie. So, in Tarlton State's case, I believe Gillispie will make the Texans program the best version of itself given its resources and current facilities. Working for Judkins at Dixie State is its basketball facility (a nice arena much like at GCU and CBU). Also, St. George, UT is a fast growing area of the country. At the moment this spring, neither Dixie State nor Tarleton State have gained any D1 one level commitments. With the present COVID19 situation going on, Gilliepie is working at the disadvantage of not having a permanent staff in place. Even from recent reports, GCU's Bryce Drew has had to do his Lope recruiting from his home in Tennessee. But I digress, over the next year or two, we will see if Jon Judkins can recruit enough talent to be competitive in the WAC and keep his long standing job.
