I would call that one of the most pathetic defensive efforts I've ever seen... But that would imply there was defensive effort.

And that fumble gifted to OU was the biggest play of the game. Something the announcers didn't mention about the OU player thst appeared to grab it first. He was laying on bodies so he wasn't down until the whistle. The whistle wasn't until it was a full pile up. It looked like one of our guys immediately got his hands in on it before the whistle too... and we came out with it. So... WTH?

Sean Lewis said the fumble call was correct. He was standing right there. Mentioned in his press conference.

That was a lost four years. All the way around. The current staff deserves credit for coming out of the guarantee games ok. These players are much tougher, much stronger and more durable than in the past.

The previous staff’s game plan against Alabama and Clemson was to show up, avoid injuries and grab a check. Not this staff.

I agree that the current staff's approach to these games is much better, but to credit the coaches with us coming out of these games healthy and not acknowledge some luck is involved seems like seeing the world through Sean Lewis colored glasses. Many of these "tougher stronger more durable players" are hold overs from Haynes. Looking at the offense right now there's really only a couple contributors that aren't Haynes recruited players (and one of them is hurt).

This is one of the facts I always find funny about the prevailing feelings among Kent State football fans. I always read the claims that Hazel was over rated because he "did it with Martin's players" but wonder why that line of thinking doesn't apply to Lewis since a ton of his major contributors are Haynes players. To be clear, I love Lewis and give him the credit for starting to turn it around. I just feel the same way about Hazel.

RE: KSU (2-0) at OU (1-1)
Age and longevity have given me the time to develop a rather strong opinion about KSU FB. I believe that the complaining about the big time scheduling is really masking the real reason for the dismal condition of the program. Let me be point blank blunt and state that the problem is that of having very poor, incompetent coaching and I lay that squarely at the feet of our AD's. Any competent AD would have known that after one year of our previous coach, and it pains me to say this, this was a losing situation and going to get better. Firstly, you can say that the selection was a gross error, but staying with that error for 5 years only leads to near death for a program. The previous coach to that was supported for six years with dismal results by the previous AD. The previous AD and coach were and are, very nice people but that does not build a company or a program. We can extend this model back before Coach Martin and see the epitome of incompetence at the coaching and AD level. If we search hard and long, we can come up with a few good coaches at KSU and it tells by their careers after KSU. I will list them and hope not to miss someone and if I do, please add them. The good ones as I see it:
*Treaver Rees
*Don James
*Don Fitzgerald
*Dean Pees
*Glen Mason
*Hazel, even with inherited players
*Sean Lewis, although not proven yet

This covers about 50 years.
I am sure that most of these coaches always wanted to schedule up. I like the money games but just want to see the money go to helping the FB program. Please understand that Coach Lewis has had to patch a program together to perform at this level with what he inherited. I see a big step upward with the talent that he and his staff are recruiting. I have great confidence in what he is doing. I am sure that I have offended some with this very subjective opinion although I am not sure that I should apologize.

Yes, players and coaches “want to schedule up” and play in a great atmosphere we’ll never see in conference play. That’s one game a year and then a couple warmups against teams we could compete with prior to conference play. When you “schedule up” and take 3 brutal road games to power programs it does nobody any good. You’re so overpowered and outmatched you waste three weeks not being able to get anything going play-wise and still have many questions going into MAC play. Sadly, the only positives are if you stay healthy and then of course the paycheck.

I get scheduling better opponents, but 3 is out of control. Its simply now looking like we are desperate for cash.
I guess we won't be seeing a bowl game for a couple more years if the status quo remains.

I don't know if this would be considered defeatist attitude but I'm hoping for a 6-6 season with a bowl game. Then next year have the breakout season. That would give us another year of this staff recruiting. Setting up the next staff with a talented team ready to go.

A 6-6 season in year two with a post-season berth? Build the statue already.

How are we going to afford this statue?

It is my understanding the university has a $500,000 emergency statue fund.

Yes, I am an Ohio alumnus. Yet I live 2 miles from Kent campus and have season tix in football and basketball. Kent is my second favorite program. I love what Lewis and staff are doing. Almost wish we had them in Athens. So I am not welcome here because I simply report a fact?

GFlash68, I don't think you wrote anything that you should apologize for. I think you summed it up exactly right I was always surprised that Leo Strang didn't do better. I suppose that shows that even in 1964 the jump from high school to what is now called D I was a tough one. (Unrelated, but I was surprised that Frank Truitt didn't do better with basketball, too.)

Forget the statue. We might need to forebear on the money games, but a 10-2 record in the MAC earns you a P5 coaching job

Then I'm onboard. Only if the statue beard looks fierce... But I think that goes without saying.

That’s if Joelius Caesar Neilson hasn’t already earmarked that funding for the statue of himself he has commissioned and will be placed on the steps of the MACC.
