I don't know him, but he said he was a transfer. That could mean this was the first year on the roster, and once this happened, they quickly expunged him.

EDIT: Quick check of news show pictures of him dressing out and playing as a Houston OL. Evidently he began the season as a starter, after a grad transfer from UCLA.

You are correct. He was a grad transfer who played at Texas Tech and UCLA.

Yeah, I think they will tweak this new rule quickly.
And why is it only football? For basketball, you can get a redshirt with minimal playing time ONLY by appealing to the NCAA and a case-by-case review.

Looks like he took a year off between TTU and UCLA, so 4 years.
Started at TTU and had a bad injury. Retired from football. That lasted a year.
Then went to UCLA and graduated.
Recruited to Houston as a grad transfer and began the season starting, until another injury ended his year.

I agree about being football only...Rule should be for everyone.

If the rule is 30ish percent of games played you are allowed to redshirt...Should be the rule across the board.

This is the power of twitter. Without it, he would've had to have rope in some journalist and - even then - the journalist may have had the story buried since the local team might buy quite a bit of advertising for the newspaper or punish the media with lack of access.

This guy is a loose cannon BUT it certainly looks like there is more than a grain of salt of truth to it.

Not a good look for the Cougs AND this is not going to help with recruiting. Hopefully, we can beat their Ar$e$ in November. I cannot imagine how this helps their season.

I agree. Being busy all day I'm out of the loop. What makes him a loose cannon?

Judging from the tweets in the original post, JM seems like a bright kid. I believe him.
But, there is always another side to the story. In fairness, we should at least wait for the response of Houston's HC before judging.

But, F Em. Go Tigers!

RE: Houston Football Couged the season
“If guys have redshirts available and are third on the depth chart I’m going to try and redshirt them,” Holgorsen said at the start of preseason camp in August. “I don’t care if they are a senior. There are some guys going into their senior year that have redshirts available, and if they are not going to be playing very much, then I’m going to try and redshirt them. That’s how you develop a program, how you build a program and develop kids.”

Could be interpreted as looking out for the players, trying to give them an extra chance to get PT where most coaches would write off a SR 3rd stringer. And aiming for continuity.

Judging from the crowd shots, their fans have quit, too.
