I do want to mention that LA Tech played USM without their best offensive player, WR and NFL prospect Adrian Hardy (6-2, 200). Hardy, who originally signed with Oklahoma, has been out with a leg injury, and Holtz kept his status quiet until game time.
I'm surprised at how little anyone has talked about that. Last year Hardy caught 75 passes for 1,145 yds and 6 TD's. This season he has another 350 yds on 26 receptions.
The guy that burned USM for 8 catches and 212 yds receiving yesterday, Malik Stanley, came into the game with only 6 catches for 94 yds in 4 games this year. He didn't even play in the other two games.
LA Tech should be a better team when we get Hardy back.
As USM who have lost our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string running backs, two offensive linemen, it’s top receiver catches wise, and it’s top defensive end.

Their stadium seated 23k prior to adding the bleacher seats on north and south ends. The south end bleachers were removed to make room for their end zone building and the north end bleachers were completely empty. Therefore EVERY remaining seat in the stadium would need to have been filled and everyone could see there were other completely or partially empty sections. 15k tops. Tis a shame too because they have a good team, weather was perfect, they just dont have the fans.
Troll's from ULoL don't often get their facts right, and you didn't this time either. Good luck with your obsession with your daddy

Bad information and bad math. An eager eagle trade mark.
I do agree there were less than 23k actual there though. No way it was as low as 15k.

Fair enough. But at the time we beat them they were 1-3 and I have not kept up with them since.

Congrats Tech that was a great game and you guys fought like any good team does to the end. The atmosphere was great the whole game. It felt like a big time game and both teams played the tails off. Good luck the rest of the way. PS don't tell EB that this is a rivalry game.

That definitely felt like a rivalry game. Lots of big hits, big plays, scoring,... USM is a very good team that will beat you if you don't bring your 'A' game for the ENTIRE 60 minutes.

Dude, you are quite possibly one of the biggest douche posters on this board.
BTW, good game LT. As expected, it was a good back and forth game. Didn't like the way it ended obviously. When Jack had the opportunity to retake the lead and then threw that int in the endzone I had a feeling it was going to be LT's day. After that pick, it seemed like LT's players just wanted it more. Good game.

La Tech, for years and even on their own site, published their seating capacity was increased to 30,500 with the addition of 7500 bleacher seats evenly divided to both ends on both sides. The seats on both sides of south end (3750) were removed just recently to make room for their south end zone bldg leaving the capacity at 26,750 which may be off by up to 500 more or less due to skybox seats removed, 300 added in south end zone, 200 in suites (?), etc. Of that 26,750 two sections, bleachers on both sides north end (3750) were totally empty leaving 23,000 (the original seating capacity) so Tech reports an attendance that would fill each and every remaining seat. Problem is the other sections werent full, some were basically empty, gaping areas of empties. So, my estimate from looking around would be no more than l5k. I know my estimate isnt exact but can some knowledged Tech fan show me or tell me how I have misread the info published by Tech over the years?

Congrats to Tech on the W Saturday. J'Mar played extremely well and after we lost a couple of OL, your DTs made life very difficult for anything our offense tried to do. Y'all were definitely the better team in the 2nd half.

This is fair. Tech had a good team and I was shocked at how empty so many sections were.

There are reasons it is like this, some of the restrictions that have been put on tailgaters the last few years.
Did you go to the 2011 game? That had a good pre-game atmosphere.
The crowd that was at this years game was loud and sounded great on the NFL network.
The city of Ruston is doing their part with shuttles, pep rally the night before. But you are right the pregame around the stadium has declined.

A lot of it is due to regulation by the administration. Student tailgating around the stadium has been pushed out to the point the Greeks tailgate at their houses and some make it for kickoff. The tailgating area around the TAC on the North side is practically non-existent after they began making the gravel lot a pass parking lot. For those traveling 4 hours or more, tailgating for a 2:30 game becomes problematic, especially when you have youth football on Saturday mornings. Throw in the apathy with how big crowds have been rewarded going back to the 2012 Utah State game with Orange Bowl officials there to witness and it takes its toll. We'll see how homecoming looks though, but CBS announcing that #1 Bama vs #2 LSWho in the same time slot probably won't do any favors for the walk up crowd, fair weather fans, ans student body if we are being honest.
All that being said Saturday was worth the seven hour trip for me and my son even if we didn't get to tailgate.

The 2011 game was in Hattiesburg I believe. I stood out in a tropical storm to watch us win and was sick for a week. Being painted up on the front row of the student section may have had something to do with that.
2010 was in Ruston, right? That was the year our punter shoved the ball out of the back of the endzone to save us from a bad snap and preserve a win? That game was fun to be at, for sure.
I just don't know. I wrote my thoughts about my experience this past Saturday in a thread on our board, but there is SO MUCH potential for Tech in how they utilize their campus on game days. So many missed opportunities, and it only took one walk through campus to see them. The practice field and track area not being utilized at all (Tailgating should happen here, as well as a concert or something at one end. If they don't want people on it, they sure let everyone I saw walk across it to go to the game). The sound operator having it silent during pregame instead of playing music, making the 30 minutes before the game just advertisement after advertisement. All visitor side being General Admission (devalues your product, basically saying no one is buying these, so sit wherever you want). Those are just a few. I took a bit of a more Southern Miss homer tone in the other post, but there were so many glaring, obvious things that could be done to help that just don't happen. And I'm sure some is just rules and regulations, but if I was McLelland, I'd be working out some way to get around those to make game days fun to be at, because that's where attendance grows, when people have fun and want to come back. This is going to come off poorly, but I'll say it because I've heard many say it about Southern Miss in the past (and it's still true of some aspects of our game day), but it felt like a high school game. I don't mean that from a 'level of play' standpoint or anything like that, just the level of production and the atmosphere surrounding everything. That CAN be fixed, but you have to have leadership that wants to fix it.

The monsoon game of 2011...still conjures nightmares.
I cannot disagree with anything you are saying here. The USM alumni tailgate was opposite the stadium from the fan fest area where they do have a concert and had lots of people milling around. I wish the whole thing would get reorganized to orient everyone in the same area or at least close by. In the past we had some UTSA fans buy an unused tailgating spot next to ours and we loved that. The idea of the fan fest area is great but the execution...it is literally the farthest you can get from any free parking situation anywhere around the stadium. Love the idea of utilizing the track and practice field. If I had to guess I would say the admin doesn't want to organize cleanup from having food & beverages on it. Small price to pay to encourage better attendance & atmosphere imo.
