First season 5-7
Next season 8-5 including Bowl win!
This season 6-0, 3-0 conf.
First P5 team to be 5-0 and not ranked!
Congratulations Gopher fans and NIU football family on this achievement.
They play Rutgers next week, so they should remain ranked.
So for those on this board who want to take NIU to, "the next level" Top 25 ranking
Please realize how hard it is , and more importantly that year in/out it is NOT realistic!
NIU does not get 2-4 ranked teams every year on the schedule.
We are lucky if we get just 1 ranked team.
Then the opposition team must win out, and the ranked teams need to lose to unranked teams for us to get ranked.
Even Rod Carey at Temple with 2 ranked wins , 5-1 is not ranked in the AP pole.
A win next week, with some top 25 teams losing might get him ranked again.
For Temple and NIU fans , I hope it happens soon.
Remember Temple is in a league with 3-4 teams being ranked at one point.
The last time the MAC had that many teams ranked I believe was 2003.
We are 25th in the coaches poll
Give him time, Carey will bring your program down, trust me on this. Someday hopefully you guys can beat a MAC team
I’m pretty content beating P5 teams instead.

Goodluck against SMU! Temple is a 7.5 underdog.
A win gets you ranked in the AP top 25 finally.

RE: Other teams with NIU coaches: Dave Doeren, Rod Carey and PJ Fleck-discussion
Predict that:
NC State wins. Dave Doeren gets continued success from a very young team in a P5 conference that might be experienceing its record worst year.
Minnesota beats Rutgers and extends its unbeaten streak to 9 games(7 this year).
Should be fifth B1G win in a row and fourth B1g straight win this year.
Admittedly they have had a relatively very easy schedule with Fresno State and Nebraska being their toughest games. Winning out in the B1G gauranteess you attention and an inflated rating. I would guess that at present both SMU and Temple have played a stronger schedule and are ranked behind Gophers. What is more 4 of those wins were very narrow wins.
I am happy for PJ Fleck who is certainly reaching new heights far quiker than some thought. Gopher's real competition will be against Penn State in two weeks, till then I expect them to role along undefeated. They will face another ranked conference team later in Iowa (if they are still ranked?) before a final game matchup with Wisconsin( ranked #6).
It is worth noting that they are already Bowl worthy.
Temple is once again playing a top 25 undefeated team after last week.
They are 7.5 points under-dogs and no-one expects them to win.
The AAC this year has 3-4 top 25 teams versus the ussually string ACC with only one!
Always great to see a non-Power 5 conference get recognized.
I do wish it was the MAC. 2003 was the last time the MAC boasted 3+ ranked teams.
UFC has really boosted that conference!
I predict that the very very unlikely will occur and that Temple gets its third too 25 win this year. Temple has really improved since the MAC days!
To sum up- predictions: NIU/NC state/gophers win and Temple gets one of the major upsetsof the week.

Bad week so far.
NIU lose. Compounded by Toledo losing to BSU. BSU leading MAC West
NC State looses to Boston College.
Temple unlikely to pull off upset against SMU.
Good news: PJ Fleck of Gophers!
Gophers 21
Rutgers 0
4th Quarter 11:30
#20 ranked Gopher's are in control of their division.
With Wisconsin's shocking loss to Illinois on a last second field goal, they arre leading their division.
Will be 7-0 ,4-0 Conference .
Easy games remaining: Maryland and Northwestern.
Hard games remaining: Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin.

RE: Other teams with NIU coaches: Dave Doeren, Rod Carey and PJ Fleck-discussion
Week 11:
PJ Fleck 8-0, 5-0 #17 conference if he beats #4 Penn State, tens of thousands of new fans will be rowing his boat with him.
As impressive as 8-0 is, he has not defeated any ranked teams yet. He plays Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin still where he can show the Nation, that he has taken Minnesota to the next level already. Pro's: Despite not beating a ranked team this year so far, he got a lucrative multi-million dollar contract extension. Cons: If he loses 3 of his next 4 games, the Lucrative contract extension will look premature.
Rod Carey: Temple 6-3; 3-2 conference. He is bowl worthy already. Likely will end the regular season unranked at 8-4!
Vs ranked teams 2-3(if UCF ends up ranked) pros: wins vs Maryland;Memphis cons: blow out losses SMU/UCF
Unlikely to end the season ranked unless he beats #20 Cincinnati and wins his bowl game.
The not so fortunate:
Dave Doeren NC State: 4-4; 1-3 conference. His last two games were blowout losses (>30 points) to Boston College 5-4; 3-3 and
#23 Wake Forest 7-1;3-1. His next game is against Clemson. Prediction: He might limp into a Bowl game If he manages to beat ACC lame duck Georgia Tech 2-6; 1-4 and either UNC 4-5;3-3 or Louisville 5-3;3-2. NC State should finish 6th out of 7 teams in the Atlantic ahead of Syracuse 3-6;0-5. His only conference win so far was a 16-10 victory over Syracuse.
Pros: NC State do not mind paying him millions of $ for his current performance and his job security is not in danger. This is his seventh year with NC State. His performance is as follows:
Year 1: 3-9;0-8 7nth Atlantic
Year 2: 8-5;3-5 5th Atlantic; won St. Petersburg bowl
Year 3: 7-6;3-5 4th " ; lost Belk bowl
Year 4: 7-6; 3-5 T-4th " ; won Independence bowl
Year 5: 9-4; 6-2 2nd " ; Won Sun Bowl finished #23; 2-2cranked teams ( best year at NC State), lucrative contract extension.
Year 6: 9-4; 6-2 3rd " ; lost Gator Bowl
Year 7: 4-4;1-3 6th Atlantic ; He likely will get 5 or 6 wins on what his followers call a rebuilding year.
Total: 47-38; 21-31
Analysis: Dave Doeren in his two seasons at NIU
Year 1: 11-3;7-1 MAC Champion; win in GoDaddy Bowl
Year 2: 12-1;8-0 MAC Champion #16 chosen for Orange Bowl.
Total: 23-4;15-1 2 MACC , 1 bowl win.
Clearly Dave Doeren has been unable so far to replicate his success with NIU at NC State.
NIU fans would probably not be as patient as NC State fans with a 47-38; 21-31 record.
While the ACC is definitely much stronger than the MAC, he has yet to replicate 2012 (year 2 at NIU) at NC State over 7 years
and might likely never see the Heights of a #16 ranking and a major Bowl despite ample opportunities.
In fairness playing in the same division as Clemson is very tough.
His two best wins were: Florida State #12 but 7-6 overall and Louisville #17 but 8-5 overall. Two teams that never lived up to their earlier rankings.
Yet even that year he was 2-2 against ranked teams and lost to unranked South Carolina and Wake Forest that year in addition to Notre Dame and Clemson.
His post season win was against an unranked 7-5 Arizona State in the Sun Bowl, a far cry from facing a ranked Top 12 team in the Orange bowl!!
Thomas Hammock 3-6; 2-3 deserves a chance especially when compared to Dave Doeren's first year at NC State.

Congratulations PJ Fleck and Minnesota football team on beating #4 Penn State.
Gophers and PJ Fleck are favorites to win the B1G East!
Should they go undefeated and beat Ohio State Gophers goto the playoffs.
They still need to beat both ranked Iowa and Wisconsin teams that play each other today!
One loss and they win the B1G division and goto Indiana to face Ohio State.
If Gophers go undefeated another PJ game day against Wisconsin might happen.
Clearly NIU's most accomplished football product of the past 20 years!

He comes across at times like a used car salesman but he sure seems to know how to lead young men on the football field. Congratulations to PJ Fleck and the Golden Gophers on a big win today and the school is probably happy that they got him to sign the new contract with the large buyout before this game.

Agree, PJ is a legitimately outstanding coach.
He knows how to-fill the seats, build fan interest and how to win.

Dave Doeren's NC State team has 7 players who are out for the season, including both starting tackles and three cornerbacks. Might be why they are not doing well against Clemson.

Minnesota would probably need to go 13-0 to make the playoffs given their initial weak SOS.
9-0 is very impressive. When you beat the #4 ranked CFP team it is even more impressive.

Minnesota administration were ecstatic when they signed him before the win. They believed in his process and loved the excited fan base.
He was on the Florida State short list which prompted the very quik contract negotiations and approval by the Minnesota board of trustees.

Minnesota jumped 6 places to #7 in the AP pole.
It will be interesting where the CFP place them.
